Three applications of plasma for glass pre-treatment
Plasma surface treatment is suitable for a range of applications on glass. Cold atmospheric plasma enables ultrafine cleaning, to remove contaminants and dust. By promoting wettability and adhesion, plasma is also suitable for preparing glass for digital printing. Here Peter Swanson, Managing Director of Intertronics, shares three successful applications ofplasma surface treatmentfor glass.
Can the UK reach net zero using current technologies?
The UK could reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions using only proven technology, without relying on the promise of future developments, according to a new report from the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT).
Germany pledges €300 million for green hydrogen research
As part of the Energiewende, Germany’s transition to non-nuclear, sustainable power sources, the Ministry of Education and Research will pump at least 300 million euros more into research on green hydrogen by 2023. A total of €180 million in ministry funds were already allocated to such research in the coming years.
Methanol fuel cell vehicles to reach commercialisation
AIWAYS has signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Blue World Technologies, a Danish developer and manufacturer of methanol fuel cell components and systems for the automotive industry. The companies will collaborate on new energy vehicle development and explore ways to deploy methanol fuel cell technologies in production AIWAYS vehicles.
Lead frame cleaning process prominent at productronica
For the manufacture of semiconductors, the cleaning of metal surfaces before wire bonding or injection moulding of the semiconductor housing is still an important and necessary step. Contaminated and oxidised metal surfaces can cause low wire bond strength and lead to failures due to interruption of the electrical contacts.
The dawn of a new age in street lighting
As Emmanuel Gardette, Field Application Engineer, Future Electronics explains, midpower LEDs are now a valid low cost light source for street lights
Fuel cell system designed for electrification on land and at sea
PowerCell has developed a new and improved version of its MS-100 fuel cell system which will be presented at the Fuel Cell Seminar & Energy Exposition in California on 5th November. The new MS-100 is 30% more compact and has improved operating life time as well as robustness for demanding applications on land and at sea.
Lightening the burden of high pressure for hydrogen vehicles
Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV), powered by hydrogen, beat battery-powered cars in several dimensions. Fueled up in only a few minutes, they have a longer range and still feature all performance benefits of the electric powertrain. But the technology is still young and has to master some challenges. From a composites’ point of view, the significant amount of fibres needed for the hydrogen storage vessel, is a particular one.
Global leaders head to Vienna for transportation conference
The Future of Transportation World Conference, which will be staged in Vienna this year, is a multiple-session conference bringing transportation experts from across the world together to discuss the future of transportation at a macro, societal and technological level.
Biomethane providing clean gas to the grid
An Atlas Copco oxygen generator is helping Nat-Ur-Gas Solschen produce clean methane at their biogas plant in Germany. Desulphurisation of biogas using oxygen results in a sustainable energy source for the grid. An added benefit is the reduction in operating costs through improved energy efficiency, by up to 50%.
