CAN bus capable of low temperature operation
A new specialised cable has been developed by Hradil Spezialkabel for use in extremely low temperatures. The CAN bus line has a small outside diameter and has been designed for minimal bending radius and high data throughput – making it well suited for high bay deep freeze facilities, i.e. for controlling stacker cranes with integrated video cameras.
Climate data measurement made easier
Researchers in Germany have developed a battery-free internet sensor that is powered via a special solar cell for indoor use, enabling tens of thousands of connected mini-sensors to transmit measurement values directly to the internet via WLAN or GSM. This development will help to reduce cost and maintenance in applications such as museums, libraries and archives, where precision monitoring of temperature, humidity or air pressure is crucial.
LOPEC adds market leaders to exhibitor list
LOPEC, the international exhibition and conference for the printed electronics industry, will bring together market leading suppliers from Europe, Asia and the USA. LOPEC will be held from April 5 to 7, 2016 in the ICM—Internationales Congress Center Munich.
Engines becoming more efficient with hardened steels
Scientists at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are working on the development of a new process for hardening steel. With the help of methylamine, they enrich low alloy steels with carbon and nitrogen. Low pressure carbonitration with methylamine saves time and process gas. The steels hardened in this way are suited for use in components subjected to high mechanical and thermal loads in energy efficient and low emission engines of the f...
First custom programmable 9-axis motion sensor
Designed for robotics, gaming, remote controls, navigation systems, drones and HIDs for IoT projects, the BMF055 compact 9-axis motion sensor has been unveiled by Bosch Sensortec. Easy to programme for a particular application, the BMF055 is well suited to the needs of customers developing advanced application-specific sensor fusion algorithms, adding sophisticated motion sensing capabilities, and replacing multiple discrete components with a sin...
"Zombie solar cells" promise innovation for photovoltaic technology
The Gerrit Boschloo’s group at the Department of Chemistry-Ångström Laboratory, Division of Physical Chemistry, Uppsala University, has just discovered "zombie solar cells". The so-called Grätzel cells, which areold dye-sensitised solar cells, were still active despite the fact that the electrolyte conducting electricity between the minus and plus poles had evaporated.
LOPEC 2016 to bring technology and business together
The international exhibition and conference for the printed electronics industry, LOPEC, will again take place in Munich next April. The two day exhibition (April 6–7) and three day conference (April 5–7) will give visitors and delegates a chance to learn about all the latest developments in this increasingly important technology sector.
World's lowest power 12-DOF smart sensor reference platform
Dialog Semiconductor and Bosch Sensortec are collaborating to create an extremely low power smart sensor platform that combines Bosch Sensortec sensors with Dialog's Bluetooth Smart technology. The resulting product is the world's lowest power 12 Degrees Of Freedom (DOF) smart sensor reference platform for gesture recognition in wearable computing devices and immersive gaming, including augmented reality and 3D indoor mapping and navigation.
Kennametal Recognized with Bosch Global Supplier Award
Kennametal Inc announced that it has been awarded the Bosch Global Supplier Award 2015 from Robert Bosch GmbH. The biannual award recognizes outstanding performance in the manufacture and supply of products or services – notably in the areas of quality, costs, logistics and innovations.
MEMS technology for your senses
Hearing, touching, smelling and seeing… what will be the next improvement that MEMS will bring to our senses? Sensors are now small, reliable and accurate enough to be included in a pocket-sized device of only 9cm3 and interface with the environment, details Yole Développement in its latest report dedicated to the wearable industry: Sensors for Wearable Electronics & Mobile Healthcare. In this technology and market analysis, Yol...
