Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Holst Centre and imec for Its Path Breaking Wearable Energy Harvester Technology
Based on its recent research on the wearable energy harvesters market, Frost & Sullivan presents Holst Centre and imec with the 2009 European Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation for its wearable electrocardiograph energy harvesting solution, which provides tens of microwatts of energy per square centimetre for modules with 3x4 cm2 dimensions. Due to its convenience of use, self powering, and low maintenance, this has opened the way f...
Imec and Holst Centre report ultra-low power heart activity signal processor
At today’s International Solid State Circuit Conference, imec and Holst Centre report an analog-signal processor ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) – in short ASP - that reduces the overall power consumption of an ambulatory heart activity signal monitoring systems by more than 5 times. This is a major step towards autonomous wireless sensor systems, which constantly monitor the patient’s health for diagnosis of chronic illness.
60A POL Module provides highest available current says Power-One
Power-One has introduced the 60A ZY8160, said by the company to be the highest current digital Point-of-Load (POL) module presently available. This fully-programmable DC-DC converter provides industry-leading power management capabilities with no additional cost or space requirements when compared to analog “conversion only” solutions. ZY8160-based systems can reduce development time, components, and PCB traces by up to 90%.
Compact embedded hardware for high definition video processing applications over IP-converged networks
ViaLogy has announced that it has developed IPv6-capable MicroSPM , compact embedded hardware for high definition video processing applications over IP-converged networks. MicroSPM extends ViaLogy’s SPM software product family by delivering a network-centric hardware policy-engine for fully-autonomous incident-based rapid detection, analysis and response. The MicroSPM platform addresses three major trends within the global surveillance indus...
Silicon Labs Microcontrollers claim Industry’s Lowest Active And Sleep Current
Addressing the need for energy efficiency in power-sensitive applications, Silicon Laboratories has introduced the industry's lowest power microcontroller (MCU) family. Silicon Labs' ultra-low-power C8051F91x/0x MCUs dramatically increase battery life in portable designs and other power-sensitive embedded systems. The new F91x/0x MCUs are ideal for a wide range of applications where low power consumption is critical such as smart meters, RFID tag...
Texas Instruments introduces highly efficient boost charger IC for nano power energy harvesting
Texas Instruments has introduced its next generation of power management integrated circuits for energy harvesting. The highly efficient boost charger for nano (ultra low) power energy harvesting manages the microwatts to milliwatts of power generated from a number of sources, such as solar, thermoelectric, electromagnetic and vibration, and stores the extracted energy in various storage elements, including Li-ion batteries and super capacitors. ...
NI Joins The Multicore Association to Improve Interoperability of Multicore-Enabled Software and Hardware
National Instruments has announced it has joined The Multicore Association, a global nonprofit organisation focused on developing standards that help shorten time to market for products that involve multicore implementations. As a member of the association, National Instruments is collaborating with leading technology companies including Intel, Freescale Semiconductor and Wind River to improve the interoperability among operating systems, hardwar...
Wireless Sensors Push Smart Machines Into Green Revolution
STMicroelectronics, ARaymond and Micropelt today announced that they are jointly presenting thermal-energy harvesting-based solutions to power ‘smart sensors’ and ‘smart microsystems’ at the Hannover Fair under the common theme of ‘Green Solutions.’ The three companies are partnering to exhibit the entire value chain of self-sustaining wireless systems in a joint booth (Hall 8, D26).
Integrated power management and stereo audio IC for mobile application processors
Dialog Semiconductor has launched a new combined power management and audio IC designed especially to support the latest generation of application processors in emerging high growth applications such as smartphones, portable multimedia devices (PMP), PDAs and personal navigators.
SiTel Semiconductor white paper on DECT as the obvious choice for Home Automation, Control and Security Networks
SiTel Semiconductor has released a whitepaper explaining the unique benefits that DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology) and its new low-power mode DECT ULP (Ultra Low Power) offer for Home Automation, Control and Security networks. Entitled “Home automation, control and security: a myriad of options; one obvious choice”, the whitepaper compares the ULP version of the familiar cordless telephony standard to a number of other proposed net...
