At electronica 2014, 11th to 14th November, exhibitors will present the latest security solutions for the networked era and the concurrent forums and conferences will feature security as one of the main topics.
Conformal Coating Inspection system debuts at SMTAI
At SMTA International 2014, September 30th to October 1st in Illinois, USA, CyberOptics will exhibit the CX150i Conformal Coating Inspection system for the first time. Company representatives will be in Booth #218 to display theCX150i, as well as the SE600 3D SPI system.
First US showing of innovative two-channel CNC system for machine tools with up to five axes
NUM is showing its new two-channel CNC kernel for the first time in the US at IMTS. Designed specifically for developers of small to medium sized machine tools with four or five axes, the Flexium+ 8 CNC provides an exceptionally cost-effective control solution that in many cases eliminates the need for a second CNC kernel. NUM is also launching a new version of its 3D simulation software which now includes kinematic equations to support advanced ...
What autonomous driving technology is now available?
While much of the technology required to realise self-driving cars is now available, Steve Rogerson looks at what still needs to be done.
Class-D audio amplifier cuts cost & development time
Allowing designers to eliminate multiple discrete components, the mono-channel, analog differential input TAS5421-Q1 audio amplifier has been unveiled. Texas Instruments claim that this is the industry’s first automotive Class-D audio amplifier to integrate load-dump protection and diagnostics in a single device for emergency call (eCall) and instrument cluster systems.
Not-so-common sensors
Steve Rogerson looks at recent developments and trends in automotive sensors for ES Design magazine.
15 million ADAS SoC devices now on the road
More than15 million Texas Instrument ADAS SoC devices are now on the road, with the company claiming that its devices are in seriesproduction in over 25 OEMs and over 100 car models.TI has developed the automotive SoC family, the TDA2x, incorporating a Vision AccelerationPac with features to help customers create next-gen ADAS solutions.

Vibrational energy harvesting power supply features highest efficiency
Holst Centre/imec and OMRON have unveiled a prototype of what they claim is the worlds’ highest efficiency extremely compact vibrational energy harvesting DC power supply. This prototype is set to be demonstrated at the TECHNO-FRONTIER2014 exhibition in Tokyo this week.
Development kits: identifying and supporting market needs
The age of the development kit is very much upon us. According to Farnell element14 research conducted with more than 1,500 designers of electronic prototypes, on average development kits were used in 45% of all designs in the 12 months up to March 2014. By utilising readymade, low cost boards engineers can test their design ideas with a variety of components. By Richard Curtin, Global Director of Strategic Alliance, element14.
