Project may enable aircrafts powered by electric motors
The arrival of a unique experimental demonstrator at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center may herald a future in which aircrafts are powered by electric motors. The Leading Edge Asynchronous Propeller Technology (LEAPTech) project will test the premise that tighter propulsion-airframe integration, made possible with electric power, will deliver improved efficiency and safety, as well as environmental and economic benefits.
Low power conversion for energy harvesting
Harnessing tiny amounts of ambient energy from sustainable sources works well in theory, but are there any practical solutions to achieving it? By Tony Armstrong, Director of Product Marketing, Linear Technology.
FPGAs withstand radiation without configuration scrubbing
Microsemi has announced the RTG4 high-speed signal processing radiation-tolerant FPGA family. The RTG4’s reprogrammable flash technology offers complete immunity to radiation-induced configuration upsets in the harshest radiation environments, requiring no configuration scrubbing, unlike SRAM FPGA technology. RTG4 supports space applications requiring up to 150,000 logic elements and up to 300MHz of system performance.
Polymers & phenolics increasingly found under the bonnet
High Performance Polymers (HPP) and phenolics have made considerable inroads into challenging automotive and aviation applications owing to their superior physical, chemicals and mechanical properties. Technological advancements and strong R&D support along with robust testing and certification processes have further attributed to the rapid adoption of HPP and phenolics in Europe.
