The industry’s most energy-friendly USB-enabled MCUs
USB-enabled MCUs, described as the industry’s most energy-friendly, have been introduced by Silicon Labs. The Happy Gecko MCUs, which expand the company’s EFM32 32-bit MCU portfolio, enable longer battery life and energy harvesting applications. Based on the ARM Cortex-M0+ core and low-energy peripherals, the devices simplify USB connectivity for a wide range of IoT applications including smart metering, home and building automation, ...
Controller board targets eDP TFT displays
An autonomous TFT controller board has been introduced by Distec. Featuring a HDMI and a DisplayPort input, the PrismaECO-eDP controls TFT displays via a dual-lane eDP interface. The device, which supports a resolution of WSXGA to WUXGA (1600x900 to 1920x1200), can control the brightness of the display backlight via PWM or analogue voltage or an optional ambient light sensor.
Solar power storage units reduce transition costs
The increasing share of electricity based on solar and wind power results in an increasing load of distribution and transmission grids. At the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) for electrochemical energy storage, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology demonstrates how modern high-performance batteries and smart controls make renewable energy compatible with the grid.
Who controls the future of the automotive industry?
By Franco Gonzalez, Senior Research Analyst, IDTechEx. The days of car companies controlling the future of the automotive industry are numbered. Indeed, waves of creative destruction and globalisation are shaking the industry. All incumbent companies established and new, are either resisting or acting, sometimes both!
Smart mobility test bed to accelerate V2X communications
NXP Semiconductors has announced that it signed an agreement with Singapore’s Nanyang Technology University (NTU) to establish a living, real-world smart mobility test bed on the NTU campus. Supported by Singapore Economic Development Board, the joint initiative paves the way for Singapore’s ‘Smart Mobility 2030’ vision, making the city-state a global innovation hub for intelligent transport systems. It is also an importan...
COM delivers HD visuals to medical imaging applications
Designed for medical imaging applications, the Express-BE COM Express Basic Size Type 6 COM has been introduced by ADLINK Technology. The COM, which is based on the 2nd gen AMD Embedded R-series APU with A77E FCH, delivers HD visuals.
DC/DC controller features a 70ms power-up time
A dual output synchronous step-down DC/DC controller, which features an I²C-based PMBus interface for digital power system management, has been introduced by Linear Technology. The LTC3887 differs from the previously released LTC3880 with an enhanced feature set that includes a faster 70ms power-up time, higher output voltage capability and a fast ADC mode that provides an 8ms update rate for one parameter.
Bi-directional converter targets energy storage & recycling
A bi-directional converter, suitable for energy storage systems with rechargeable batteries, has been introduced by TDK-Lambda. The EZA2500-32048 is a 2500W digitally controlled, compact 1U power supply that can automatically change conversion direction from high voltage dc sources, powered by solar or wind, to 48VDC batteries and vice versa.
