Most network operators will implement 5G New Radio (NR) as an extension of their existing LTE mobile network (NSA). As a result, mobile devices will have to function in both worlds simultaneously. So Rohde & Schwarz has developed the R&S CMX500, a radio communication tester for 5G NR that can be seamlessly integrated into an existing LTE test environment.

5G devices operating in the mmWave range (FR2), such as smartphones and tablets, require over-the-air (OTA) testing since these devices usually have no RF port or interface to connect to, and conducted tests are therefore not possible.
