Design trends: Batteries for IoT
The IoT phenomenon is allowing the collection of data from sensor nodes practically anywhere in the environment, and giving non-electronic objects the ability to communicate, opening up a whole sphere of applications for electronic systems. Selecting batteries for IoT connected systems can be tricky, as there is such a wide variety of application types.
IoT sensor-node board targets cloud applications
A new sensor node board that delivers the low power operation and connectivity required for Internet of Things (IoT), smart sensing and cloud applications has been developed by Avnet Silica. The distributor has combined processing, sensing and connectivity from STMicroelectronics with the ARM mbed IoT Device Platform, which provides a complete solution including an advanced OS to run hardware, device management in the cloud and advanced security.
Xilinx exhibits at Embedded World 2017
Xilinx is demonstrating responsive and reconfigurable vision guided intelligent systems at Embedded World 2017. Conference presentations and demonstrations will show how Xilinx’s tools, libraries and methodologies infuse machine learning, computer vision, sensor fusion, and connectivity into vision guided intelligent systems. Visit the Xilinx Hall 1/1-205 at Embedded World 2017, March 14-16, at the Nuremberg Exhibition Hall in Nuremberg, Ge...
Modern electromechanical relays meet reliability demands
Although they’ve been superseded in some applications by newer technologies such as SSRs (Solid State Relays), EMRs (Electromechanical Relays) still have a lot to offer. Avnet Abacus' Mathias Goebel explains.
Do you need more than enough? Specifying AC/DC power supplies
Bigger is always better, isn’t it? That’s not necessarily the case when it comes to specifying an AC/DC power supply. Avnet Abacus' Don Schriek explains.
'Wet' vs. polymer aluminium capacitors
Aluminium electrolytic and polymer wound aluminium electrolytic capacitors may seem similar at first glance, because their construction and appearance are very similar. However, the technologies offer very different performance characteristics. Adam Chidley, European Product Manager at Avnet Abacus explains.
Analog Devices names Arrow strategic global distributor
Analog Devices (ADI) has selected Arrow Electronics as its strategic distribution channel partner operating globally. ADI will retain its current regional distributor network but will employ Arrow as its sole global distribution channel partner. The decision sees Avnet Silica and EBV Elektronik, an Avnet company, depart the Analog Devices distribution network.
Distributor addresses design challenges at Embedded World
Attendees at Embedded World 2017 in Nuremberg (March 14-16) will be able to find a wide range of innovative solutions on the Avnet Silica stand. The distributor will host a demo and solution area to showcase over 60 demonstrations of boards and tools on seven demo stations. The solution area will showcase demos which address a range of challenges encountered by design engineers.
Boosting growth of the LoRaWAN network architecture
Avnet Silica, an Avnet company, announced it has joined the LoRa Alliance as an ‘Adopter’ member to support development, growth and adoption of networks based on the LoRa protocol (LoRaWAN) low-power wide-area networking technology (LPWAN). Prior to joining the LoRa, Avnet Silica had already built-in support for LoRaWAN via the company’s ‘Visible Things’ industrial IoT platform.
Ward replaces McBeth at helm of Avnet Abacus
Nigel Ward has been named as president of Avnet Abacus with immediate effect. He replaces Graham McBeth who last week took on a new role as president of Premier Farnell, which was recently acquired by Avnet. Industry veteran Ward’s career within Avnet spans almost three decades.
