ON Semiconductor Extends Current Range and Flexibility for Stepper Motor Designs
ON Semiconductor has announced that the company has extended its bipolar stepper motor control family to include two new Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) versions of a motor driver capable of peak currents up to 800 milliamp (mA) and for use with an external microcontroller for added flexibility. The AMIS-30511 and AMIS-30512 eliminate the need for many external components, reducing system cost and bill of materials (BOM).
ON Semiconductor Introduces New 256-Tap Digital Potentiometers for Control of Up to 16 Devices on One Bus
ON Semiconductor has announced the availability of two new Digitally Programmable Potentiometer (DPP) ICs suitable for high accuracy and stability for variable resistance adjustment applications in a wide range of industrial and consumer products. The CAT5270 and CAT5271 are dual-channel digital potentiometers with 256 resistor taps for fine resolution adjustment and an I2C-compatible interface for maximum interoperability.
ON Semiconductor introduces high efficiency wireless charging ICs
ON Semiconductor has released the NMLU1210, an innovative power MOSFET integrated circuit (IC) for wireless charging applications in portable products such as cell phones, media tablets, portable media players, digital still cameras and GPS units.

SolarMagic Power Optimizer Passes Rigorous Testing for Reliability, Durability
National Semiconductor has announced results of rigorous internal reliability testing for its SolarMagic power optimizers. The results of the tests demonstrate SolarMagic has an industry-leading mean time between failures (MTBF) of 455 years which, when coupled with its 20-year warranty, make National’s SolarMagic power optimizer one of the most reliable electronic photovoltaic (PV) system components available. SolarMagic improves the output ...
Freescale and IPextreme expand licensing of ColdFire cores
Freescale Semiconductor is expanding its ColdFire licensing program by offering its 32-bit V4 ColdFire core to the embedded community through IPextreme, a semiconductor technology licensing specialist. Working in collaboration with Freescale, IPextreme will now market, sell and support Freescale’s V1, V2 and V4 ColdFire cores to system-on-chip (SoC) designers seeking to integrate the cores and other functions onto single-chip ICs.
Freescale updates plans for Sendai fabrication facility
After completing the assessment of its Sendai, Japan wafer fabrication facility following the recent earthquake, Freescale Semiconductor today announced that it will not reopen the seriously damaged facility.
Agilent Technologies' New LTE Applications Target 4G System-Level Designers
Agilent Technologies introduced a new line of system-level design and verification products for 3GPP LTE physical layer (PHY) design at Mobile World Congress 2010. In addition to its traditional test and measurement products, Agilent now provides predictive products and algorithmic references for the SystemVue platform that are consistent with the LTE v.8.9.0 (December 2009) standard. The new line includes four products that accelerate 4G deploy...
Maxim creates new Power SoC product category to reduce PCB size, extend battery life, and lower total system cost of mobile devices
Maxim announced the creation of highly integrated Power System-on-Chip (Power SoC) devices. These new products integrate power management and mixed-signal functions such as digital audio, a high-speed interface, and a touch-screen controller on a single chip to enable high performance, as well as thinner and smaller form factors in smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.
Fully Integrated Octal VGAs with On-Board CW Doppler Beamformers for High-Performance Ultrasound-Imaging Equipment
Maxim has introduced the MAX2036/MAX2038, a fully integrated, SiGe variable-gain amplifiers (VGAs) with on-board continuous-wave Doppler (CWD) beamformers designed specifically for high-performance ultrasound-imaging applications. Together with the existing MAX2034 quad low-noise amplifier (LNA), the MAX2036/MAX2038 octal VGAs with CWD beamformers deliver the highest levels of integration, sensitivity, and dynamic range, along with the lowest out...
