Plug-and-play NFC portfolio expanded
The portfolio of plug-and-play (Near Field Communication) NFC solutions available from NXP has been extended with Arduino add-on boards and the release of the PN7150 NFC controller. This enhanced portfolio aims to make the integration of NFC technology in consumer electronic devices (especially in OS-based systems), easier and faster.
Open source BLE beacon is simple to program & debug
Entering its last week on Kickstarter for delivery in December (campaign ends Friday 5th August at 8pm GMT) the $30 Puck.js has all the required programing and debug software tools built-in and runs from a single Nordic Semiconductor nRF52832 BLE SoC with built-in ARM Cortex M4F processor.
3.0x3.2mm BLE SoC targets wearable & IoT applications
Designed for next-gen wearables and space-constrained IoT applications, Nordic Semiconductor has announced that the nRF52832 BLE SoC is now available in a WL-CSP measuring 3.0x3.2mm. It offers the same full feature set in one quarter of the footprint area of the company's standard 6.0x6.0mm QFN48-packaged nRF52832.
A wireless and wearable toxic-gas detector
MIT researchers have developed low-cost chemical sensors, made from chemically altered carbon nanotubes, that enable smartphones or other wireless devices to detect trace amounts of toxic gases.Using the sensors, the researchers hope to design lightweight, inexpensive RFID badges to be used for personal safety and security. Such badges could be worn by soldiers on the battlefield to rapidly detect the presence of chemical weapons and by people wh...
ST to demonstrate dynamic mobile and IoT solutions at MWC Shanghai
STMicroelectronics is showcasing its latest products and technologies for the mobile, wearable and IoT applications in Hall N1 Booth E50 at Mobile World Congress Shanghai, 29thJune to 1st July, 2016.
Combining passwords & tokens improves mobile security
Online applications on mobile devices require new methods of secured log-in. The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance has developed security standards for strong authentication that are simple to use and protect more efficiently from fraud. Infineon Technologies has announced the first FIDO-certified BLE reference design for wireless authentication tokens.
ARM at the heart of the IIoT
According to the latest analysis by Semicast Research, the number of devices available to be connected to the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) is forecast to grow to almost 2.5bn annually in 2021, from about 1.2bn in 2015, a growth rate of almost 15%. Similarly, the total available market for electronics equipment suitable to be connected to the IIoT is forecast to grow to over $930bn, from $675bn over the same period, a growth rate of about ...
Customisable power supplies come in six variants
A brand new range of highly customisable power supplies – the Quint Power range from Phoenix Contact is now available at Conrad Business Supplies. Quint Power is said to be the first parameterisable power supply in the world. It can be supplied to customers pre-configured allowing them to implement power directly into their systems with no additional configuration required in manufacturing.
ST & SAG deliver tiny NFC tags for IoT applications
STMicroelectronics & Securitag Assembly Group (SAG) have announced a tiny NFC Ferrite Tag that uses ST’s ST25 NFC tag IC for IoT data-transmission applications. Small, light and thin, the NFC Ferrite Tag can be surface-mounted during production through the metal pad that can be directly soldered to the PCB surface. It can also function when placed on metal products because of its anti-metallic interference characteristics.
NFC tags protect against cloning
The NT3H2x11NTAG 12C plus family of connected near-field communication (NFC) tags from NXP Semiconductors is now being shipped by distributor Mouser Electronics. The NTAG I2C plus family is the latest development of NXP NFC tags, combining a passive NFC interface and a contact I2C interfaces together with a non-volatile memory.
