The world’s lowest power ARM Cortex-A5-based MPUs
A series of MPUs claimed to deliver the world’s lowest power consumption has been released by Atmel. The Atmel | SMART ARM Cortex-A5-based MPUs deliver sub 200µA in retention mode with context preserved, 30µs ultra-fast wake-up and a new backup mode with DDR in self-refresh at only 50µA.
FPGAs withstand differential power analysis attacks
Microsemi has announced that its SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs and IGLOO2 FPGAs have passed certification for resistance to Differential Power Analysis (DPA) in the DPA Countermeasure Validation Programme developed by Rambus Cryptography. This allows Microsemi to use the Cryptography Research trademarked “DPA Lock” security logo under license from the organisation in connection with these products.
MCUs supported by starter kit, evaluation boards
The STM32F7 series of very high performance MCUs with ARM Cortex-M7 core from ST Microelectronics is now available at distributor Rutronik with a starter kit and two evaluation boards. With ST’s ART Accelerator and an L1 cache, the STM32F7 MCUs deliver the full performance of the ARM Cortex-M7 core with code executed from either embedded Flash memory or an external memory.
Protect capital equipment from piracy & IP theft
Industrial automation, medical equipment, electronic components – plagiarism of capital equipment requires effective prevention, such as embedded security solutions from Infineon. According to the OECD, counterfeiting and piracy costs add up to around $638bn annually. The OPTIGA Trust E offers an easily implementable solution to protect manufacturers’ valuable IP from being attacked, analysed, copied and modified.
Networking solution enables Thread-compliant IoT products
Silicon Labs has introduced its highly anticipated Thread networking solution, delivering a software stack built upon years of mesh networking expertise and advanced software development tools. Silicon Labs’ Thread solution offers developers the fastest path to developing Thread-compliant products for the IoT including thermostats, wireless sensor networks, smoke/CO detectors, connected lighting devices, control panels, wireless access poin...
Synopsys acquires Elliptic Technologies
Synopsys has acquired Elliptic Technologies. This acquisition follows Synopsys' recently announced acquisition of Codenomicon and plans to acquire Quotium's Seeker product, demonstrating Synopsys' continued investment in providing the electronics industry with the necessary technology for developing secure products.
Secure boot FPGA protects valuable IP from attack
Microsemi has completed Differential Power Analysis (DPA) testing on its secure boot FPGA solution, which resolves side channel vulnerabilities inherent in the configuration process of large SRAM FPGAs. The DPA testing was completed using the Test Vector Leakage Assessment (TVLA) methodology developed by Cryptography Research Incorporated (CRI), a division of Rambus.
Multi-application MCUs offer integrated high security
Freescale has announced the Kinetis K8x multi-application MCU family, delivering high levels of integrated security on an ARM Cortex-M class platform.Creating a secure embedded application has previously required a main processor, a security co-processor to perform cryptographic functions, and in some cases an IC for physical tamper protection. Kinetis K8x MCUs perform all of these functions for savings in cost, size and power.
The race is on
As autonomous vehicles edge ever closer to mainstream reality, it’s now legislation and litigation that are expected to hold things up, not technology. But that only puts more pressure on manufacturers to get their solutions to market, as Philip Ling investigates.
28nm Cyclone V FPGAs offer secure voice communications
Altera has announced that its 28nm Cyclone V FPGAs have been chosen by Harris for its latest Falcon III wideband tactical radio. The radio, currently in production, has been designated by the U.S. NSA to be NSA Type-1 certified, enabling Harris to field the radio for secure voice and data communications.
