10 things to look out for when choosing EV software
Tech innovation is rocking the automotive world. As Electronic Vehicles (EVs) make headway, autonomy, connectivity and data-sharing are the next big steps for EV makers looking to create responsive, modern vehicles.Mobility leaders must choose their EV software providers carefully, and should consider the following critical trends. Functional safety and AI in industry: can they coexist?
Functional safety is often applied in a binary way, where defined operational parameters are considered in an absolute way. It is unlikely that an algorithm that responds with a probability level rather than 'yes' or 'no' would fulfil functional safety requirements, but that is precisely what is happening. BASELABS and Vector sign agreement for ADAS software
Vector has distributed the software BASELABS Create Embedded from the Chemnitz-based developer of sensor fusion internationally as part of its ADAS product portfolio. Both companies signed a cooperation agreement for this purpose in January 2021. The two software companies have already been collaborating since 2014 with the goal of creating a joint offering for the development of driver assistance systems and automated driving.
Safety framework for off-highway autonomous vehicles
Oxbotica and TRL have piloted the use of the first Code of Practice for the safe and cost-effective deployment of autonomous vehicles in unstructured off-highway environments, with a live trial conducted in a quarry using a number of off-road vehicles.
eToF laser driver ICs optimised for augmented reality
EPC has announced the introduction of an eToF laser driver that integrates a 40V, 10A FET with a gate driver and low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) logic level input in a single chip fortime-of-flight lidarsystems used in robotics, drones, augmented reality, and gaming applications.
3D LiDAR people counter solution with wide coverage area
Quanergy Systems has announced the availability of a new QORTEX People Counter solution, S3-2WSO, with double the coverage compared to previous iterations. The new release enables users to accurately monitor and control occupancy limits in public transportation and public venues while protecting individual privacy.
A new generation of infrared lasers for LiDAR
LiDAR is a key technology in the development of autonomous vehicles. In combination with radar and camera systems, it acts as the vision of the car, capturing its surroundings. LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) uses infrared light to create a precise, three-dimensional map of the environment. The better this visual information, the easier it is for the downstream systems to use it.
Infineon and Reality AI teach ADAS cars how to hear
Today's advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are based on cameras, radar or lidar. As a result, their target objects need to be within the line of sight to be recognised by the system. This, however, turns into a weakness when it comes to emergency vehicles – they can be heard much earlier than they can be seen and thus are invisible to ADAS for a longer time.
MotionEngine Scout dead reckoning software for robots
CEVA has unveiled the Hillcrest LabsMotionEngine Scout, a highly accurate dead reckoning software solution for intelligent navigation systems in indoor robots including robot cleaners and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) used in industrial or commercial settings.
LIDAR sensor line joins Mouser’s global network
Mouser Electronics has added LIDAR sensors and modules to its portfolio by signing a global distribution deal with Benewake.
