Breakthrough for the 2D materials sector
Graphene Flagship researchers have reported a new method to integrate graphene and 2D materials into semiconductor manufacturing lines, a milestone for the initiatives recently launched2D Experimental Pilot Line (2D-EPL)- a €20m project to bridge the gap between lab-scale manufacturing and large volume production of electronic devices based on two-dimensional materials.
Rockley Photonics closes $50m growth round
Rockley Photonics has announced that it has closed an additional $50m of growth funding from leading deep-tech VCs, strategic investors, and institutional funds including Credit Suisse backed SIG-i Capital and Applied Ventures, the venture capital arm of Applied Materials, as well as existing shareholders.
CVD graphene for electronic applications in 2021
Given the exciting properties, graphene has always been linked as a revolutionary material for the electronics industry. CVD graphene is cited as the ideal solution in providing a perfect single layer produced in a low cost continuous R2R process, but the manufacturing and commercial reality have proved very different. After a long period of research, and with players regularly exiting and entering the field, we are only now starting to see this ...
CPI renews ISO certification for medical devices
CPI has today announced the successful re-audit and renewal of its ISO certification13485:2016 – the international standard for medical device Quality Management Systems (QMS). Compliance with ISO 13485 is a key part of meeting global regulatory requirements and allows CPI to continue offering an accelerated route to market for developers of medical devices.
Ophir Ariel ultra-compact laser power meter released
MKS Instruments has announced the Ophir Ariel, a self-contained, ultra-compact laser power meter for measuring high power industrial lasers up to 8KW. Designed for OEM and end-user applications in closed and confined spaces, such as additive manufacturing, metal cutting, and welding, the Ariel power meter is a robust, battery-powered device that requires no water or fan cooling and is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
WS Fast series wavelength meter for fast dynamics
The recently launched WS Fast Series offers accuracy combined with maximum data acquisition rate of up to 76kHz, allowing fast dynamics in the kHz range to be directly observed. Different measurement modes enable the user to record or view the frequency behaviour of the light source.
Local entrepreneurs enter space at EPIC
Three former Nortel engineers have moved their electronics business to the Electronics and Photonics Innovation Centre (EPIC) at White Rock. Mike Badcott, Andrew Addy and John McKinnon each have over 30 years of experience in the electronics sector. They will use EPIC to grow their CAS Antennas business and HEEDRA products.
Retinal-imaging breakthrough to swiftly detect eye diseases
Glaucoma, cataracts or macular degeneration will be quicker and easier to diagnose thanks to a new scanner being developed to capture real time and artefact-free eye images.European researchers are developing a new real time scanner that will create a full image of a moving eye without any blurring.
Hamamatsu Photonics building completion at Toyooka site
Hamamatsu Photonics has been constructing a new Building No. 5 at the Toyooka Factory site (Shimokanzo, Iwata City, Japan), and has now announced the completion of the new building. This new building will start operations in September this year to boost the R&D activities and customer service in the electron tube market. The completion ceremony for this new building took place Wednesday, August 19th.
Hamamatsu Photonics completes new factory
Hamamatsu Photonics has been constructing a new factory building at the Shingai Factory (Shingai-cho, Minami-ku, Hamamatsu City, Japan) to cope with increasing sales demand for opto-semiconductors, X-ray image sensors and X-ray flat panel sensors. This new factory will start operations in October this year. The completion ceremony for the new factory building took place Friday, August 7th.
