EBAM systems can 3D print titanium structures
Sciaky, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries, (PSI) and leading provider of metal additive manufacturing (AM) solutions, announced it has posted record machine sales in the month of December with the sale of four Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing (EBAM) systems. The buyers will use the machines to 3D print titanium structures for aerospace applications, as well as to produce large parts for ground-based military vehicles, and warships.
Is there an ace in the hole?
In order to overcome the challenges of chip formation and evacuation when drilling non-ferrous metals, cutting tool and tooling system company, Sandvik Coromant has announced itsCoroDrill 880 CVD diamond-coated insert grades,GCN124 and GCN134. The properties of the diamond coating provide long tool life and combine with a chip breaker and geometry designs to guarantee performance when drilling materials such as aluminium.
Grip chains for precision feeding, transport and positioning
Grip chains are now on offer from chain manufacturer, iwis. These chains have wear- and corrosion-resistant clamping elements that ensure safe and reliable feeding, transport and positioning of thin-walled materials with a large surface area. Grip chains are used, for example, in packaging, medical technology, electronics, PCB production and metalworking industry applications. For use in food processing, all chains are available with food-grade l...
Formulating cast urethane to produce wire guide rollers
The manufacturing of wafers for the microelectronics and photovoltaic industries involves a multitude of critical processes. One of the first of these is the precision cutting of ingots or crystals, typically composed of hard and brittle silicon, into uniformly sized wafers that are suitable for the processing of silicon chips.
Quantum physics turned into possible reality
ETH physicists have developed a silicon wafer that behaves like a topological insulator when stimulated using ultrasound. They have thereby succeeded in turning an abstract theoretical concept into a macroscopic product. The usual procedure goes like this: you have a complex physical system and attempt to explain its behaviour through as simple a model as possible.
Volumetric 3D printing builds on need for speed
While additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, is enabling engineers and scientists to build parts in configurations and designs never before possible, the impact of the technology has been limited by layer-based printing methods, which can take up to hours or days to build three-dimensional parts, depending on their complexity.
High performance electromechanical steam turbine actuator
A range advanced electromechanical actuators (EMAs) has been added to INMOCO’s portfolio. These Diakont units are for steam turbine applications and offer an alternative to hydraulic actuators for pilot and steam control valves. Complementary control systems are also available.
Making a connection: a summary of RF connector trends
In a cost-effective way, Radio Frequency (RF) connectors seek to transfer data across multi-megahertz radio frequencies with minimal data loss from reflection and dispersion.Situated at the end of every cable with the job of transferring data to the next PCB or system, RF connectors operate like a gateway to the device-under-design; select the right one and the data being transferred passes without the least delay, select the wrong one and the si...
Test procedure helps develop quick-charging lithium-ion batteries
When lithium-ion batteries are charged too quickly, metallic lithium gets deposited on the anodes. This reduces battery capacity and lifespan and can even destroy the batteries. Scientists at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Forschungszentrum Jülich have now presented a process that, for the first time ever, allows this so-called lithium plating process to be investigated directly. This puts new strategies for quick-charging ...
Fully integrated powered wheel drives with steering for EVs
Allied Motion Technologies has introduced the WheelMaxSteering Series wheel drive assemblies. The steering Drives are fully-integrated, electrically powered traction wheels with on-board steering systems for electric vehicles.
