Autonomous vehicle communications record set using 5G
Researchers in WMG at the University of Warwick have set a new 5G communications speed record to a 'Level 4' low speed autonomous vehicle in the pioneer 28GHz millimetre wave band. They hit 2.867GBs per second in over-the-air transmissions, which is nearly 40 times faster than current fixed line broadband speeds. It is equivalent to sending a detailed satellite navigation map of the United Kingdom within a single second, or the full contents of a...
Radar test solution advances autonomous driving safety
The E8740A Automotive Radar Signal Analysis and Generation Solution from Keysight Technologies has been enhanced to enable radar-based, advanced driver assistance systems to proactively detect and mitigate risks of collisions. As advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles gain in popularity, they also raise concerns about safety and reliability.
Partnership enables secure environment for automotive systems
Renesas hasannounced they are expanding their partnership to offer an integrated virtualisation, functional safety and secure development environment for the Renesas R-Car system-on-chip (SoC) devices. Using BlackBerry’s QNX software, it was developed as part of the companies’ ongoing strategic relationship to advance autonomous and connected driving technology.

Patrolling robots to destroy petrol plant explosions
Autonomous robots fitted with tiny chemical sensors that listen to the ‘sounds’ coming off gases will instantly detect gas leaks in petrochemical plants and pipelines to dramatically improve disaster responses. The risk of a petrol plant explosion or a potential disaster on an oil refinery could be dramatically reduced thanks to a new generation of tiny chemical sensors that use light and sound to ‘listen to’ gas leaks.
