What’s next for the sapphire industry?
Almost two years after GTAT's bankruptcy, the sapphire industry is still there. Its decor and characters have, of course, changed but the story is still unfolding. Survival strategies, emerging applications, niche markets, mergers and acquisitions... all the protagonists are contributing to altering the landscape, trying to identify new business opportunities to absorb the sapphire overcapacity. China is a major contributor to the story with new ...
How are electrification, autonomous driving and lighting transforming the automotive industry?
More than Moore technologies and devices (sensors, power modules, LED and laser), all key enablers for car electrification, are spurring the trend towards more autonomous driving - but how will these changes happen and how will they impact the supply chain, the share of value amongst players and semiconductor industry growth?
Amkor opens MEMS packaging line in China
Driven by the increase in global demand for sensors from the smartphone and automotive markets, Amkor Technologyjust announced it is opening a new MEMS and sensor packaging line at its facility in Shanghai. This new, state-of-the-art line will build on the expertise developed at Amkor’s MEMS packaging line in the Philippines, which has produced more than 2.1 billion units of MEMS and sensors since 2011.
GaN-on-Si technologies: Let the games begin
It is now common knowledge throughout the semiconductor industry: MACOM is pursuing legal action against Infineon Technologies. The story is complex yet so predictable: Yole Développement and its sister company KnowMade, both heavily involved in technology, marketing and IP analysis for the semiconductor industry, released a patent landscape analysis report two years ago dedicated to GaN-on-Si technologies.
Major trends set to propel the bioMEMS market
BioMEMS have been used for years, for plenty of applications. Some are linked to solid, mature, slow-growing industries, while others are part of booming applications that are adding new fuel to the bioMEMS market. According to Yole Développement analysts, this market will triple from $2.7bn in 2015 to $7.6bn in 2021.
MEMS contributes to the inkjet printing industry (r)evolution
Inkjet printing market is in transformation: “Not a revolution, but an evolution,” announces Yole Développement in its latest MEMS report, Inkjet Printhead Market & Technology Trends. And MEMS technology is largely contributing to those changes.
Sensors and robots are destined to be together
The drones and robots market is expected to grow at CAGR of 9.4% between 2015 and 2021, reaching a total revenue of $46bn by 2021. In its latest report, Yole Développement (Yole) highlighted that: “More and better sensors means more and better robots.”
Disruptive tech and behaviour changes are driving automotive lighting
A recently published report from Yole Développement, titled, ‘Automotive Lighting: Technology, Industry and Market trends’, has shown that automotive lighting industry growth is driven by the introduction of disruptive technologies and consumer behaviour changes.
