Delivering intelligence in autonomous driving SoCs
The combined forces of Synopsys and FABU Technology have announced that FABU has selected a portfolio of silicon-proven Synopsys DesignWare Interface, Security, ARC EM Safety Island Processor, and Embedded Memory Test and Repair IP to deliver high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) system-on-chips (SoCs) for advanced automotive applications.
Cellular IoT ear tag tracks health of reindeer
Developed by Finnish startup, Anicare, the Anicare Healtag tracker is attached to an animal's earflap and can autonomously measure different vital functions for up to five years. Data is sent via cellular direct to the Cloud for immediate access via a smartphone app so that injured or ill animals in the wild can be automatically identified for rescue and treatment.
Driverless: Who is in control?
For decades, autonomous vehicles have been heralded as a new technology that could change the way we live our lives. ‘Driverless: Who is in control?’ is opening on 12th June 2019 at the Science Museum will explore how close we are to living in a world driven by thinking machines.
The autonomous car of the future
Ultimate flexibility - the Rinspeed MicroSnap shows what's possible when the pod separates from the chassis.
Robot swarms to offer truly precise agriculture at a plant level
Swarm robots – small, simple and inexpensive – promise to reverse the trend in agriculture towards ever bigger machines. These little workers behave autonomously, interacting with each other and the environment to achieve the desired outcome. The benefits include less damage to soil structure and greater precision for weeding and harvesting. But how close is this to reality and what is needed to ensure their safe, responsible usage on...
Records broken at embedded world 2019
In its 17th year, embedded world impressed the global embedded community and reportedly excelled across the board. The results for visitor and exhibitor numbers and display area were outstanding: around 31,000 trade visitors, the second best visitor total since the trade fair began, and 1,117 companies from all over the world flocked to the eight percent larger display area at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg.
ADAS market set to witness over 12.5% CAGR
Stringent government regulations, requirement for compliance with emission standards, and increasing consumer inclination towards innovative safety technologies are transforming automobile industry. Rising public spending has resulted in increased automobile sales and road traffic, thereby enhancing the probability of accidents, property loss, and fatalities.
Moving towards level 5 autonomy
The complexity inherent in autonomous vehicle design will push the tools and methodologies used by automotive engineers to their limits. This is especially true in the electrical and electronic systems domains as they come to dominate the operation of a vehicle’s safety-critical systems and convenience features.
ClearMotion announces ten year deal with new technical centre
ClearMotion has committed to a ten year deal on a new technical centre within MIRA Technology Park, Europe’s largest automotive R&D cluster. The Boston-based company specialises in proactive suspension technology, road surface mapping and active seating motion control. ClearMotion’s proactive ride system mitigates road roughness in real time, doing for motion what noise-cancelling does for noise.
Image recognition SoC designed for automotive applications
Toshiba has announced the development of an image recognition SoC (System on Chip) for automotive applications that implements deep learning accelerator at ten times the speed and four times the power efficiency of Toshiba’s previous product. Details of the technology were reported at the 2019 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San Francisco on 19thFebruary.
