Compact DC/DC converters suit medical applications
Two 2W rated DC/DC converters for use in medical device applications that require safety isolation between the input and output have been announced by XP Power. TheIML02 and ISM02 provide 4,000VAC reinforced isolation with 1 x MOPP at 300VAC (250VAC model IML02) working voltage and, useful for patient connected devices, have a low 2µA patient leakage current.
Data centre standard helps to save the world’s energy
A new open standard for data centre rack power distribution will potentially save a significant percentage of the world’s energy consumption. Sally Ward-Foxton reports.
Digital DC/DC converters suitable for telecom applications
Two digitally-controlled DC/DC converters have been launched by Artesyn Embedded Technologies. The ADO300 and ADQ700 are suited to telecom, computing and server applications. Both converters are in standard DOSA compliant digital interface brick format and pin configuration and are available with baseplate or open frame options.
MOSFET has low-loss synchronous switching in parallel operation
A 100V, 160A power MOSFET range has been launched byToshiba Electronics Europethat delivers a tighter threshold voltage (Vth) specification than previous devices. A tighter threshold voltage specification is very important in switching applications and the TK160F10N1L offers min/max Vth of 2.5/3.5V versus its predecessor’s 2/4V range.
Safer X-ray diagnosis created through hi-res detectors
The NHS recorded over 22 million X-rays in England last year, and they are a diagnostic test that most of us are familiar with.Scientists have often sought to reduce harmful ionising radiation, the high-energy particles that penetrate tissue to reveal internal organs and bone structures that can damage DNA, from single x-ray records or CT scans.
Compact cartridge fuse protects high voltage power supplies
A 600VDC ceramic body fuse has been introduced by Littlefuse - the507 Series Cartridge Fuse has an interrupting rating of 150A at 650VDC in a 6x32mm package. Its high DC voltage rating, combined with current ratings from 1-8A, make it suitable for over-current protection in high-voltage DC power circuits.
Magnetic component supplier increases manufacturing by 50%
The opening of a second manufacturing site has been announced by ETAL Group. The sitein Ratmalana, Sri Lanka, represents a substantial investment by the company, increases its worldwide manufacturing space by 50%.
High-current density sensor ICs with high precision programming
The release of the new family has been announced by Allegro MicroSystems Europe, as a fully integrated current sensor linear ICs in a new core-less package designed to sense AC and DC currents up to 100A. Allegro’s ACS780/ACS781 are provided in this new automotive-grade, low-profile (1.5mm thick) sensor IC package that represents the highest current density of any Allegro current sensor IC package to date.

PbS/PbSe detectors have TO-39 or TO-8 housing
Two or four single lead-salt detector elements are assembled within a single TO-39 or TO-8 housing each with its own IR optical filter, supplied from either one of many LASER COMPONENTS’ standard optical filters or a custom designed optical filter. Free issue filters or windows can also be used. The popular detector element of choice measures 1mm x 1mm square. Single channel detectors usually employ 2mm x 2mm square elements.
