PoL converters provide advanced power conversion management
A module has been added to Murata Power Solutions' OKD family of digitally controlled Point of Load (PoL) DC/DC converters, the60A, 95% efficientOKDL-T/60-W12. The OKDL-T/60 power module is suited for FPGA and processor applications. The module is specified to operate over a Vin range of 4.5-14VDC, and provides a user adjustable output in the range of 0.6-1.8VDC with an efficiency of 94.9%.
Compact DC/DC converters carry UL certification
Two series have been added to Aimtec's 20 and 30W DC/DC converter line. TheAM20EW-NZ and AM30EW-NZseries offer an input of 4:1 (9-36, 18-75 and 40-160VDC input ranges) and are housed in a 2x1" metal and plastic package. The products have an input to output isolation of 1,500 and 3,000VDC and continuous short circuit protection.
Bumpy surfaces dissipate heat in microelectronics
Bumpy surfaces with graphene between would help dissipate heat in next-gen microelectronic devices, according to Rice University scientists.Their theoretical studies show that enhancing the interface between gallium nitride semiconductors and diamond heat sinks would allow phonons – quasiparticles of sound that also carry heat – to disperse more efficiently. Heat sinks are used to carry heat away from electronic devices.
Automotive grade inductors feature e-shield to lower costs
The series of low-profile, high-current inductors from Vishay Intertechnology has been expanded to feature integrated e-shields for reduction of EMI with automotive grade devices in the 2525, 3232 and 4040 case sizes. The Vishay Dale IHLE-2525CD-5A, IHLE-3232DD-5A, and IHLE-4040DD-5A lower costs and save board space by eliminating the need for separate board-level Faraday shielding.
MACOM announces definitive agreement to acquire AppliedMicro
It has been announced that MACOM Technology Solutions Holdings (MACOM) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AppliedMicro) for approximately $8.36 per share, consisting of $3.25 in cash and 0.1089 MACOM shares per share of AppliedMicro.
Actual measurement techniques for millimetre wave applications
Today’s most attractive millimetre wave applications lie on the so called E and V Bands. The first of these corresponds to a frequency range from 60GHz to 90GHz, at which Line Of Sight (LOS) transmission is mandatory due mainly to atmospheric attenuation effects. Indeed, many molecules from atmospheric gasses such as oxygen, water vapour or nitrogen can absorb energy at specific wavelengths within this band.
