Wraparound resistors increase density in 0805 case size
PCIM Europe 2017: Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a series of thick film surface-mount wraparound chip resistors with high power ratings of 0.33 W in the compact 0805 case size.
Power stage suits half-bridge and full-bridge DC/DC converters
ON Semiconductor has launched the FDMF8811, the industry's first 100 V Bridge Power Stage module for half-bridge and full-bridge isolated dc-dc converters. The 25 A-rated device integrates a 120 V driver IC, a bootstrap diode, and two highly efficient power MOSFETs in a PQFN-36 package. The FDMF8811 reduces the board area required for DC/DC converter designs by approximately one third compared to discrete implementations, enabling engineers to des...
1,3A LDO regulator drives efficiency in mobile devices
Toshiba has announced the industry’s smallest1.3A output current CMOS LDO regulator for mobile device power supplies. The TCR13AGADJ offers a typical dropout voltage of just 92mV (at 0.9V, 1.0A) and is supplied in a WCSP6F package measuring 0.8x1.2x0.33mm (max). The regulator can be used in a variety of applications including WiFichipsets for smartphones and tablets and power supplies for cameras and RF modules.
Low-cost AC/DC converters suit Smart Home applications
Intelligently networked smart homes and smart offices require mesh control systems with many low power nodes, actuators and sensors that are “always on”. To meet these emerging demands, RECOM takes a big leap with complementing its low-power RAC-series with new low-cost converters with EN60335 household certification. These and upcoming RAC-series converters represent a quality-cost proposition, difficult for competition to match.
MOSFETs market recovered in 2016
In its latest power electronics report,Power MOSFET: Market & Technology Trends,Yole Développement (Yole) announced that 'in 2016, the MOSFET market recovered, after a minor downturn in 2015.”With stable growth, mainly in automotive and industrial sales in 2016 the overall silicon power MOSFET market size surpassed 2014’s performance. “We expect the market to grow steadily thanks to increasing demand for efficient ele...
Data centres change power-conversion tactics to save energy
Executed in large data centres, internet applications and services comprise hundreds to thousands of individual serves. Representing a new class of large scale machines these data centres are driven by complex and rapidly evolving workloads.Because of the concentration of powerful computing resources, power consumption is a critical factor in the total cost of ownership and maintenance of the data centre.Alessandro Zafarana, Max Picca, Osvaldo Za...
First GaN-on-Silicon Devices on 200-mm Wafers
X-FAB Silicon FoundriesandExagan, a start-up innovator of gallium-nitride (GaN) semiconductor technology enabling smaller and more efficient electrical converters, have demonstrated mass-production capability to manufacture highly efficient high-voltage power devices on 200-mm GaN-on-silicon wafers using X-FAB’s standard CMOS production facility in Dresden, Germany.
Servo drive system simplifies project engineering for machine builders
The Sinamics S210 converter from Siemens was designed specifically for use with the newly developed Simotics S-1FK2 motors, now the company is offering a new servo drive system in five power classes ranging from 50-750W.The converters come with integrated safety functions and enable rapid engineering. In addition, they are connected to the higher-level controller over Profinet and allow simple commissioning using a web server and one-button tunin...
Automotive resistor features 10W power rating in compact case
A new Automotive Grade Power Metal Strip resistor that delivers a high 10 W power rating in the compact 2818 case size has been released by Vishay Intertechnology. By providing the high power capability of larger resistors in a smaller footprint, the Vishay Dale WSHP2818 is designed to save space and reduce component counts in automotive, industrial, consumer, and computer applications while offering a surface-mount alternative to leaded resistor...
AWG meets signal generation demands at lower cost
Responding to a changing scenario in the test and measurement sector, Tektronix has launched an arbitrary waveform generator to meet what it describes as demanding signal generation needs in advanced research, radar and electronic warfare design. The test and measurement specialist thinks the pricing is pretty special too, coming in at 11,000 Euro per channel.
