Li-ion battery anode made from Portobello mushrooms
Can portobello mushrooms stop cell phone batteries from degrading over time? Researchers at the University of California, Riverside Bourns College of Engineering think so. They have created a new type of Li-ion battery anode using portobello mushrooms, which are inexpensive, environmentally friendly and easy to produce.
Efficient hard-part turning: CB7015 from Sandvik Coromant enables significant savings in transmission production
Transmissions are typically mass produced, so component costs are a vital factor for success. With its CB7015 indexable insert, Sandvik Coromant offers a cost efficient time-saving tool for hard-part turning. The tool covers a wide range of applications and delivers optimal finish quality – while being highly suited for dry machining.
Panel connectors target automation applications
The extensive range of Binder M12 connectors has been strengthened with the availability of new surface mount panel connectors. Supplied in two halves: an SMT contact carrier that is made of liquid crystal polymer and an optional nickel-plated brass body if it is required, these new connectors are suitable for re-flow soldering at 250°C for 20 to 40 seconds and are available with or without shielding.
Foremost Re-Boots Website
Foremost Electronics announces the launch of its completely rebuilt website. The company represents a number of key manufacturers of components for the electronics industry including MEC, Binder, ELMA, Pentair Schroff and Pentair Hoffman and FCT.
Printing process makes 3D objects glow
ConventionalElectroLuminescent (EL) foils can only be bent up to a certain degree and can be easily applied onto flat surfaces. The recent process, developed by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Franz Binder, now allows for the direct printing of EL layers onto three-dimensional components. Such EL components might be used to enhance safety in buildings in case of power failure.
Connector length reduced to save space
A new version of the popular Binder range of M8 connectors reduces the length by some 30% making them ideal for applications where space is at a premium such as in inductive proximity sensors. Until now all Binder M8 connectors incorporated a hole for an LED indicator but these new versions cater for a growing requirement for M8 sensor tube connectors without LEDs.
Connector range enhanced with female panel mount version
The extensive range of Binder M12 connectors has been enhanced with the introduction of female panel mount versions with an M20 x 1.5mm fixing thread to simplify assembly. These versions are pre-terminated with 200mm long, 0.25mm diameter(AWG 24) wires and complement the existing male panel mount versions.
3D printing materials market expected to reach $8bn by 2025
According to a report published by IDTechEx, the 3D printing materials market is expected to increase from $800m in 2013 to $8bn by 2025.3D printing is already common in aerospace, orthopaedic, jewellery and dental sectors, and is becoming more common in education, military, architecture, medical research and automotive sectors. This is because 3D printing is no longer used just for one-off pieces and prototypes, but for final part production of ...
Full-Range Stellram Portfolio from Kennametal Expands Pathways to Metalcutting Excellence
