Atlas Copco is now offering on-the-spot oil contamination testing to compressed air users in the UK with the launch of its new O-Box indicator system. The company’s sales engineers are able to quickly measure the oil content of an operator’s compressed air network and submit the results in a report within three minutes on site.
Battery-free RFID sensor tag reduces maintenance costs
An RFID sensor tag, capable of transmitting a unique identifier and the associated weight measurement data to a commercial EPC C1G2 reader without the need of a battery on the sensor tag, has been released by Farsens. The Atlas features four channels for load cells with measurement ranges from 0 to 900kfg per channel.
VSD compressors celebrate 20th anniversary
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of its VSD compressors, Atlas Copco have claimed that the compressors have saved the UK 240m kWh of electricity since their introduction. The figure, based on a comparison with conventional fixed speed compressors, represents sufficient electricity to supply all of the households in the city of Cambridge for a year, and in terms of carbon emissions is equivalent to taking 42,460 cars off the road for a year.

Atlas Copco Compressors will exhibit its latest compressor ranges at Northern Manufacturing & Electronics 2014. On stand A45 the company will display a range of products including the GA90+-160 range and the energy-efficient VSD+ compressors. Visitors will be able to hear how the GA 90+-160 range of oil-injected rotary screw compressors offer increased productivity levels and reduced operating costs.
Units recover 94% of thermal energy to heat water up to 90°C
Offering improved performance and a smaller footprint, a re-design of Atlas Copco's energy recovery units for its GA compressors has been announced. The stand-alone, retrofit energy recovery units recover up to 94% of thermal energy to heat water up to 90°C for a number of process and domestic applications such as showers or central heating.
Drive operates continuous full load from -20°C to 50°C
The development of an in-house designed inverter drive, called Neos, has been announced by Atlas Copco. The first in-house designed inverter drive from Altlas Copco, all of the company’s GA 37-90 VSD compressors will be equipped with the new Neos inverter units. They will also be available as spare parts for retrofitting existing GA models in the field.

Offering increased productivity levels and reduced operating costs, the company claims that the enhanced design of the packaging improves performance by up to 5% and provides for increased availability and durability compared with the previous generation.
RWM 2014 to feature compressors boasting 50% energy savings
At RWM 2014, Atlas Copco Compressors will be showcasing its full array of energy-efficient compressed air solutions, including the company’s compact GA VSD+ compressor. Launched in 2013, GA VSD+ compressors provide industry-leading energy savings of 50% on average, a 13% leap in Free Air Delivery and a canopy less than half the size of traditional fixed speed compressors.
