AVX reduces leakage current, boosts voltage rating of ultraguard multilayer ceramic varistor series
AVX Corporation has expanded its Zinc Oxide (ZnO) based varistor series to include an 18V-rated version that exhibits a low leakage current of 1µA maximum, which extends battery life in portable devices. The UltraGuard Series multilayer ceramic varistors feature non-linear, bi-directional voltage-current characteristics similar to back-to-back zener diodes with an EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) capacitor in parallel.
Micro-packaged transistors and diodes from ON Semiconductor
ON Semiconductor has announced the expansion of its discrete packaging portfolio with new micro-packaged transistors and diodes. The new additions broaden the company’s micro-packaged portfolio of transistors and diodes targeted to meet the needs of today’s most demanding space-constrained portable applications.
Alps Develops and Commences Mass Production of “FLGS3 Series” Lead-Free Aspherical Glass Lens for Optical Communication Using Wide-Angle Laser Diodes
Alps Electric has developed the FLGS3 Series aspherical glass lens for optical communication. The FLGS3 Series lens has high optical coupling efficiency and is compatible with wide-angle laser diodes. Mass production and shipments commence in July 2011.
LEDs and Heat: Managed or Micromanaged?
All of the focus on thermal management of light emitting diodes raises the question: is it always worth the cost? For LEDs, every penny must be applied efficiently. The benefits of lower junction temperature are well known, but there is a tipping point between investing additional product cost in thermal management and getting a return on that investment. Good thermal management starts with clear product and application definition.
OSRAM celebrates milestone in manufacturing of OLED
With the launch of the pilot production line for organic light emitting diodes (OLED) in Regensburg on 30 August, OSRAM has set an important milestone on the road toward volume manufacturing. As a result of its scope of possibilities and its quality criteria, the plant is unique and the first of its kind worldwide. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF - Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) played an important role with it...
