First medical-grade X-ray detector on plastic
Researchers from Holst Centre and imec have demonstrated what they believe to be the first ever X-ray detector produced on a plastic substrate that is capable of medical-grade performance. The device delivers high-resolution, dynamic images at 25fps and 200ppi with high contrast using medical-level X-ray doses.
Digital RGB/ambient light and proximity sensor IC
Expanding its family of low-power ICs for hand held and mobile sensing applications, ZMDI has launched the ZOPT3100, a leading-edge RGB/ambient light and proximity sensor IC. It integrates an ambient light sensor (ALS), a colour sensor (CS), and a proximity sensor (PS), as well as an integrated IR LED driver on a single chip.
Functional fine chemicals for future electronics
The latest report from IDTechEx, "Functional Materials for Future Electronics: Metals, Inorganic & Organic Compounds, Graphene, CNT", looks at the new electronics and electrics from the point of view of suppliers of fine chemicals and associated high added value processes.
IR emitters and photodiodes are AEC-Q101-qualified
Offering an ultra-wide ±75° angle of half-intensity, Vishay has introduced two matched pairs of high-speed AEC-Q101-qualified 940nm IR emitters and silicon PIN photodiodes. The VSMB10940X01/VEMD10940FX01 feature a profile of 1mm while the VSMB11940X01/VEMD11940FX01 offer a profile of 0.6mm. The company claim that this is the industry's lowest profile for side-looking, AEC-Q101-qualified components.
Industry’s first digital ultraviolet index sensors
Silicon Labs has announced what the company claim is the industry’s first single-chip digital ultraviolet (UV) index sensor ICs. The Si1132 and Si114x sensors are designed to track UV sun exposure, heart/pulse rate and blood oximetry and provide proximity/gesture control for smartphone and wearable computing products.
Small boost DC-DC converter designed to bias APD
Linear unveil a new fixed frequency, current-mode step-up DC-DC converter, the LT3905. Designed to bias avalanche photodiodes in optical receivers, the LT3905 features high side APD current monitoring with over five decades of dynamic range and better than 2% relative accuracy over the 3µA to 3mA range.
Imec Demonstrates 25Gb/S Silicon Photonics Devices On Single Platform
Imec today announced the release of its fully integrated silicon photonics platform (iSiPP25G) for high-performance optical transceivers (25Gb/s and beyond). Imec’s portfolio includes low loss (2.5dB/cm) strip waveguides, highly efficient grating couplers (2.5dB insertion loss), high-speed (50GHz) Germanium waveguide photodiodes, 25Gb/s Mach-Zhender and Micro-ring modulators.
Surface-mount photodiodes with 35° angle of half sensitivity
Vishay Intertechnology has broadened its optoelectronics portfolio with the introduction of new high-speed photo detectors in miniature gullwing, reverse gullwing, and side-view packages with wide-view dome lenses. Offered with or without daylight blocking filters, featuring a ± 35° angle of half sensitivity, and AEC-Q101-qualified, the VEMD2xx3(SL) PIN photodiodes have a typical output current of 10 µA and an extremely low dark ...
