First 'all in one' IoT module delivers global LTE connectivity
The IoT world is growing again, as Gemalto is expanding Industrial IoT connectivity with a significant breakthrough in wireless engineering – the industry’s first IoT moduleto provide global connectivity on 12 LTE bands plus, 3G and 2G cellular coverage all from a single device. This greatly simplifies logistics and distribution and lowers the cost of global IoT deployments.
A fusion of sensor technology enhances the IoMT
The Internet of Moving Things (IoMT) is here. From smartphones and tablets to smart clothing and wearables, everyday objects and devices are now able to measure, monitor and analyse motion, generating massive amounts of data and insight. Electronic Specifier caught up with Ben Lee, CEO of MEMS sensor developer mCube on what the company brings to the market space and an intriguing acquisition.
Biocompatible ink for 3D printing makes use of living bacteria
A group of ETH researchers led by Professor André Studart, Head of the Laboratory for Complex Materials, has now introduced a 3D printing platform that works using living matter. The researchers developed a bacteria-containing ink that makes it possible to print mini biochemical factories with certain properties, depending on which species of bacteria the scientists put in the ink.
Physical model explains the origin of Earth’s water
Equipped with Newton’s law of universal gravitation (published in Principia 330 years ago) and powerful computational resources (used to apply the law to more than 10,000 interacting bodies), a young Brazilian researcher and his former postdoctoral supervisor have just proposed a new physical model to explain the origin of water on Earth and the other Earth-like objects in the Solar System.
Scanning tunnelling microscope for magnetic atoms
Philosophers in ancient Greece already believed that matter is made up of atoms. Only about 35 years ago, however, were atoms actually observed for the first time – inZurich. The scanning tunnelling microscope developed by Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer allowed surfaces of materials to be investigated with a spatial resolution of less than one nanometre – enough to see individual atoms.
Air pollution battle found to be crucial to China’s public health
A new study has shown that China’s measures to improve air quality are working, but more stringent policies should be put in place to safeguard public health. Air pollution in China, especially in mega-metropolitan areas, is a matter of concern due to its impact on public health.
Security scanner commended at AOA Awards
Rohde & Schwarz’s R&S QPS200 Security Scanner has been commended at the 2017 Airport Operators Association (AOA) Awards. The premier AOA Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony celebrates recent achievements in the aviation industry and rewarding those that have played a major part in driving it forwards over the past year.
How would your company respond to a cyber ransom attack?
After three years of development, Anquanhas launched theCAST (Cyber Attack Survival Training) platform.CAST provides a new concept and approach to address thecritical lack of cyber awarenessat an executive level within organisations. It exploitsimmersive educational, exercise and planning techniques and each simulationis delivered by ateam of subject matter experts drawn from across government and the commercial sector.
The growing need for better electrical safety standards
An expert in the field has warned that lives can be saved by better electrical safety standards in public and private rented housing.Following the Grenfell Tower disaster in June, electrical testing experts at Seaward called on the Government to introduce new rules to help save lives.
Disinfection robot has robust wireless access
A disinfection robot has been introduced from the Danish company INFUSER, as the STERISAFE-Pro. It disinfects surfaces in any given room - for example patient rooms, operating theatres or hotel rooms - removing up to 99,9999% of pathogens. The robot fills the designated room with an Ozone-based biocide agent which kills unwanted bacteria, viruses and fungi, while purifying the air from small particulate matter in the air.
