An alternative path to thermoelectric nanomaterials
By doping a thermoelectric material with minute amounts of sulfur, a team of researchers has found a path to large improvements in the efficiency of materials for solid-state heating and cooling and waste energy recapture.
IDTechEx reports explore very large Li-ion batteries
Very large Li-ion battery banks were largely unknown ten years ago. Now, it is tough to keep up with the variety of uses for them. On ships, where there were no such batteries, we are starting to see 1-5MWh banks. Autonomous underwater vehicles, mining trucks and buses can sport ones of up to 350kWh but it is in stationary applications that really big facilities have arrived. Here there is a multiplier effect with Li-ion gaining market share in g...
Wolfspeed releases 28V 30W GaN HEMT Die
Wolfspeed has released a 28V, 30W GaN HEMT bare die at this year’s IEEE Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference (WAMICON), which took place April 11 – 13th, 2016 in Clearwater Beach, Fla. Designed for up to 8GHz operation, the 28V GaN HEMT die exhibits 12dB typical small signal gain at 8GHz, 17dB typical small signal gain at 4GHz, and 30W typical PSAT.
50W GaN power amplifier features 47dBm Psat
Pasternack announces their PE15A5025 50W GaN coaxial power amplifier operating in the popular 2 to 6GHz frequency band. The compact and rugged design delivers high levels of output power and efficiency and has the advantage of high output load impedance that makes port matching easier over wider bandwidths using lower loss components.
Microsemi unveils 15 devices at IMS 2016
Microsemi has announced that it will feature 15 products from its RF, millimetre wave ICs, MMICs, ultra-low power sub-GHz transceivers and high performance WLAN monolithic RFICs portfolio at IMS 2016, currently on at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Spanning the DC to 140GHz frequency range, these devices build upon Microsemi’s rich history in RF, microwave and MMW solutions for the defence, communications, instrumentation, ...
GaN power switching transistors stack to shrink
Small, reliable, high-voltage GaN power switching transistors from GaN Systems are provided in compact GaNPX packages for integration into power and wireless modules, media codecs and high signal integrity applications, such as sensors and amplifiers.
Latest microwave products on show at IMS 2016
The International Microwave Symposium 2016 (IMS), taking place next week in San Francisco, will see TMD Technologies (TMD) feature its latest microwave products on Booth 1849.
Power electronics for electric vehicles
At first it seems ridiculous that IDTechEx forecasts a huge growth in the power electronics business for electric vehicles. Yes, there is tending to be two motors per car or larger vehicle not one now and that means many more motor controllers. Yes, the market is growing for the vehicles and each car or larger vehicle has a charger and a battery management system on board, both being power electronics but that alone is insufficient to create the ...
CoorsTek to unveil enhanced GaN-on-Silicon Epiwafers at ISPSD 2016
CoorsTek, a supplier of engineered ceramics, will unveil its enhanced Gallium Nitride on Silicon (GaN-on-Si) epiwafers at the International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs (ISPSD) in Prague, Czech Republic.
Ampleon unveils full portfolio of PA solutions for small cells
Ampleon has announced a wide portfolio of RF Power solutions for medium power and massive-MIMO applications. These applications include LTE pico- and micro-cells as well as multiple-antenna array (LTE-Advanced Pro and 5G) systems. Proposed for all cellular bands from 700MHz to 3.8GHz these solutions are available in a range of forms from dual-stage MMICs to fully integrated multi-stage Doherty PAs matched to 50Ω.
