Enterprise prototyping system for early software development
It has been announced that Cadence Design Systems has expanded its Verification Suite and System Innovation offerings with the Cadence Protium X1 Enterprise Prototyping Platform, the first data centre-optimised FPGA-based prototyping system providing multi-MHz speed for early software development, hardware/software regressions and full system validation.
Three options offered in connector series
The Minitek Pwr series from Amphenol is in stock at RS Components. The series offers connectors that are compact, robust and versatile, along with high levels of flexibility for power and signal connectivity.
Data centre in a wind turbine unit wins award
Constructing power-intensive data centres where electricity can be obtained on a climate-friendly basis, for example in wind turbines, has been the idea for ‘WindCORES’ for a couple of years now. A new project called ‘WindCORES++’, which was developed in cooperation between WestfalenWIND IT, Rittal and SICP, won in Category 1 of the German Data Centre Award in the ‘Ideas and research in relation to data centres&rsquo...
Five key elements to selecting a PDU
Electricity is like air and water, something that we have all come to take for granted. But there is now clear evidence that we cannot assume our energy sources can be forever guaranteed. Data centres rely on a stable electricity supply 24/7, but our future supply is far from assured. By Mark Guest, Rittal’s Product Manager for IT Power Distribution
What is AIoT and why does it matter?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is probably one of the most talked about technologies. Everyone wants to claim that their product has AI in it, even if it doesn’t. And if it does contain ‘AI’, what type are we talking here? By Andrew Grant, Senior Business Development Director, Vision & AI, Imagination Technologies
Design engineers spurred on with plastic gear range
The standard component specialist, norelem, has launched a range of plastic spur gears, for a cost-effective and highly efficient addition to the toolkits of design engineers. The most commonly used gear type, spur gears are an essential component for non-slip transmission of forces from one shaft to another. This is crucial for machines that require a change in the direction of rotation, for example, where loads must be raised or lowered.
Digital condition monitoring system for overhead conveyors
A condition monitoring system based on HARTING’s MICA Edge computer system is being used for the early detection of wear in the overhead conveyor systems used in production lines in the automotive and other industries. The failure of individual support frames in these conveyors can lead to the stoppage of entire production lines, but the MICA-based system detects wear at an early stage and thus prevents unplanned downtime.
Specialist defence computing equipment at DPRTE
It has been announced that Captec will be exhibiting at DPRTE, the defence procurement and supply chain event, 28th March, for the second year running, on stand 105. Captec will be showcasing its naval-certified racks, mobile-deployable computing, rugged tablets and high performance ruggedised computing platforms.
Greater security in manufacturing IT
Working closely with industrial companies, Rittal’s teams create IT infrastructures for use with Industry 4.0 technology, including edge computing platforms. Here, the company has put together tips to help companies implement fast-deploying and secure IT for production environments. By Paresh Kansara, Rittal’s Product Manager for Industrial and Outdoor Enclosures
Compact PDU systems for professional power distribution
Four compact PDU (Power Distribution Units) systems have been developed by Rittal, for professional power distribution in IT racks which will halve the time a system takes to assemble, compared to screw-in PDUs. The systems employ snap-in technology so not only is it very quick and easy to assemble, there is also no need for tools.
