Antenna design turns military vehicles into transmitters
High-frequency antennas transmit radio waves across vast distances and even over mountain ranges using very little energy, making them ideal for military communications. These devices, however, have one big problem: They need to be huge to operate efficiently. Instead of adding more bulk, University of Wisconsin–Madison engineers are working to increase the effective size of antennas by turning the military vehicles that carry them into tra...
WiFi that locates you
We’ve all been there, impatiently twiddling our thumbs while trying to locate a WiFi signal. But what if, instead, the WiFi could locate us? According to researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), it could mean safer drones, smarter homes and password-free WiFi.
Waveguide mixer supports V-Band mmW measurement
A High Performance Waveguide Mixer, the MA2806A, which expands millimeter-wave measurement solutions has been introduced by Anritsu. Connecting the new MA2806A to Anritsu’s Signal Analyser MS2830A supports spectrum measurements in the 50GHz to 75GHz band (V-band) currently used by various millimeter-wave sensors, WiGig Gigabit Wireless LAN (802.11ad), and broadcast video camera streaming equipment.
Companies to launch state-of-the-art transmitter receiver board
Utilising the power of e2v’s next-generation Analogue-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and Digital-to-Analogue Converter (DAC) technologies, ApisSys is developingits most advanced transmitter receiver board to date, theAV125. Theprototype is scheduled for release mid-2016.
A/D converter eyes wide range of applications
A new dual, 14-bit, 500 MSPS analog-to-digital converter from Analog Devices is being shipped by distributor Richardson RFPD with full design support. The AD9684 includes an on-chip buffer and a sample-and-hold circuit designed for low power, small size, and ease of use. The new ADC is specifically designed for sampling wide bandwidth analogue signals.
Position-tracking system improves sports teams’ performance
A precise position-tracking system that allows teams to measure and analyse player movement in three dimensions and provide immediate feedback to improve performance has been introduced by BeSpoon SAS.
Conical inductors features full-length cap to protect coil
Highlighting their recently expanded line of BCL/BCR series conical inductors, Coilcraft will be at IMS 2015 next week in Phoenix. The products are offered in two configurations, the BCR series has a full-length cap to protect the coil and provide a large surface for pick and place and the BCL series features 'flying leads' to allow precise positioning and adjustment of the mounting angle.
40GHz upconverter enhances vector signal generator
Rohde & Schwarz has released a 40 GHz version of its SGU100A RF upconverter. This version expands the frequency range of the SGS100A vector signal generator from 12.75 GHz to 40 GHz, making it the smallest microwave device of its kind on the market for continuous signals between 80 MHz and 40 GHz.
PLL devices target RF & microwave communications designers
Three phase-locked loop (PLL) devices have been launched with one featuring, the company Analog Devices claim, the industry’s widest frequency coverage and lowest VCO phase noise in a single device. The ADF5355 PLL covers a 55 MHz to 14 GHz frequency spectrum, while the ADF4355-2 PLL features a 55 MHz to 4.4 GHz frequency span. Both devices are targeted at RF and microwave communications systems designers who need a single, high-performance...
Industry's highest performing 2GSPS data converter
Able to discern smaller signals in the presence of noise, clutter, blockers and interferers, the 12-bit, 2GSPS, AD9625 ADC has been introduced by Analog Devices. The manufacturer has claimed that it offers the best noise and dynamic range performance in its class for better receiver sensitivity.
