World's smallest ToF ranging sensor offers 2m range
STMicroelectronics has announced the second generation of its FlightSenseTime-of-Flight ranging sensor technology, now available in the VL53L0X laser-ranging sensor.The VL53L0X extends the ToF measurement range to 2m, and is accurate to within ±3%. It is also faster, measuring the distance in under 30ms, and highly energy-efficient, consuming only 20mW in active ranging mode and drawing 5µA in standby.

ESA unveiled the first Sentinel-1 satellite images sent via the European Data Relay System's world-leading laser technology in high orbit.The two images were taken by the radar on the Copernicus Sentinel-1A over La Reunion Island and its coastal area. The first was scanned in a high-resolution mode, the second in a wide-swath mode that provides broad coverage of surrounding waters, and used in particular for maritime surveillance.

DHL Parcel has successfully concluded a three-month test of its third Parcelcopter generation. The trial run, part of a larger research and innovation project, was conducted between January and March 2016 in the Bavarian community of Reit im Winkl.
