IC compiler place & route increases designer productivity
Synopsys has announced that STMicroelectronics has taped out its latest Fully Depleted Silicon On Insulator (FD-SOI) SoC using Synopsys' IC CompilerII place and route solution.Collaborating closely with Synopsys, ST used the tool to complete more than half of the chip, achieving higher designer productivity and better device performance.
MEMs sensor development platform targets M2M/IoT
A new evaluation platform for MEMS and environmental sensors, created by linking the Cinterion Concept Board by Gemalto to a STMicroelectronics NUCLEO expansion board has been unveiled by Anglia Components. Using source code supplied by Anglia, designers can request measurements such as temperature, humidity, pressure, co-ordinates and g-force from the on-board sensors using SMS communication or AT commands.
'World's first' high-symbol-rate satellite demodulator chip
The world’s first 500MBd high-symbol-rate satellite demodulator chip has been released by STMicroelectronics. The STiD135 enables significantly more efficient bandwidth usage and increased throughput in satellite internet provisioning when deployed with transponders aimed at using the higher frequency bands to send data via Ka-band communication satellites.
Workshop looks at innovative memory technologies
CEA-Leti is hosting its seventh workshop on innovative memory technologies, following the 17th annual LetiDays Grenoble on the 24th and 25th of June at the Minatec campus. Topics at LetiWorkshop Memory on the 26th of June will range from short-term to long-term memory solutions.
Programme supports wireless connectivity ecosystem
At Sensors Expo 2015, Anaren announced that it has launched its Atmosphere Sensors Partnership Program, which introduces a suite of proven sensor technologies and tools into its wireless connectivity ecosystem. A key feature of the initiative is a sensors element library.
IC development programme receives seven major subscriptions
CEA-Leti hasannounced that seven partners have joined its FD-SOI IC development programme, Silicon Impulse, launched to provide a comprehensive IC technology platform that offers IC design, advanced intellectual property, emulator and test services along with industrial Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) shuttles.
Breakthrough doubles single & multi-core speed-up
Synopsys has announced FastSPICE simulation breakthroughs in its CustomSim circuit simulator 2015.06 release that doubles multi-core speed-up on four cores, enabling design teams to keep pace with the increasing complexity of verifying advanced-node and mixed-signal designs. Optimisations in CustomSim deliver double single-core speed-up for designs using BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process technology, such as PMICs.
NFC transceiver enables NFC/RFID UART module
Shanghai Stollmann Communication Technology has selected STMicroelectronics’ NFC transceiver for use within its NFC/RFID UART module. The NFCMod+S68 combines a small form factor with robust performance and optimised power consumption, allowing manufacturers to develop RF reader systems for paired data exchange, authentication and identification applications in healthcare, industrial, home appliances and consumer electronics.
Fault-tolerant MCUs suit safety-critical in-car use
Utilising an in-house 40nm embedded Flash process, ST Microelectronics has added several devices to its multi-core MCU family, aimed at making cars safer. The automotive MCUs combine ISO 26262 ASIL-D compliance, encryption for security and increased memory size for the storage of vital programmes and data, strengthening ST’s line of fault-tolerant MCUs for demanding in-car applications.
Smart antenna easily negotiates windy urban canyons
Tallysman has introduced the TW5340 smart antenna, pairing Tallysman‘sAccutenna technologywith STMicroelectronics’ Teseo II receiver. This combination makes this product the most accurate smart antenna for use in every environment, including urban canyons. The TW5340 is a multi-constellation GNSS Smart Antenna which provides simultaneous GPS/GLONASS/SBAS reception.
