MCU self test library aids domestic appliance maker
A pre-certified self test library for Atmel Corporation’s SAM D2x microcontrollers has been published by Hitex. The library helps manufacturers achieve compliance with safety standards for household appliances which mostly require the class B cerfication level. According to the IEC 60335 and IEC 60730 standards a microcontroller-based device has continuously to prove reliable operation.
Motherboards are based on the 6th generation Intel Core processor family
Avalue Technology has introduced the SLP-SKL, the EMX-Q170 and the EAX-Q170, which are based on the 6th generation Intel Core processor family. The 6th generation Intel Core processor family (codename Skylake) is a brand new micro-architecture built on Intel's 14nm manufacturing process. The family offers dramatically higher CPU and graphics performance, a wide range of power and feature scalability, and new advanced features that boost IoT desig...
Health app wins ARM smart product design competition
A new device to help tackle sleep apnea has claimed first prize in the ARM Smart Product Design Competition. The Apnea Observer was designed by developer Clemente di Caprio from Rome, Italy, who has been awarded $5,000 to help advance his prototype. Sleep apnea affects up to a quarter of the general population, according to the British Journal of Anaesthesia, with 90% of sufferers remaining undiagnosed. If left untreated, this chronic sleep condi...

Protect capital equipment from piracy & IP theft
Industrial automation, medical equipment, electronic components – plagiarism of capital equipment requires effective prevention, such as embedded security solutions from Infineon. According to the OECD, counterfeiting and piracy costs add up to around $638bn annually. The OPTIGA Trust E offers an easily implementable solution to protect manufacturers’ valuable IP from being attacked, analysed, copied and modified.
MOSFETs save space in DC end applications
Infineon has launched a family of StrongIRFET MOSFETs for DC powered circuits including battery powered circuits, brushed and BDLC motor drives. The MOSFETs offer efficiency for end applications such aspowerandgardening tools, light EVs, UAVs ande-bikesthat demand a high level of energy efficiency but are restricted in available space. This is made possible by the compact Medium Can DirectFET housing featuring a revised layout.
