Ranging sensor to unlock new applications for IoT
STMicroelectronics has released its second generation laser ranging sensor based on its FlightSense technology. The new VL53L0 sensor can range faster, over longer distances, and more accurately, thus improving smartphone and tablet camera performance and opening new possibilities and features in robotics, user detection, drones, IoT and wearables.

Multi-regulator PMIC needs no additional circuitry
A series of highly integrated automotive-grade power-management devices from STMicroelectronics incorporates multiple voltage regulators on a single die, allowing manufacturers of car-infotainment systems to reduce the cost and size of their products. The first member of the series, theL5963, integrates two switching regulators for step-down DC/DC conversion, a linear LDO regulator, and a high-side driver.

Distributor extends ARM University collaboration
The partnership between Digi-Key Electronics and the ARM University Program has been extended to distribute ARM Education Kit hardware components to higher educational institutions. The products will be on display at Embedded World 2016 in Nuremburg (February 23-25). Digi-Key will provide Education Kit hardware that support design courses covering Embedded Systems, System-on-a-Chip (SoC) development and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

MOSFETs enable smaller, greener automotive power supplies
An AEC-Q101-qualified family of high-voltage N-channel power MOSFETs has been introduced by STMicroelectronics for automotive applications. The devices are built using ST’s state-of-the-art MDmesh DM2 super-junction technology with fast-recovery diode, feature a breakdown voltage over the 400-650V range and are housed in D2PAK, TO-220 and TO-247 packages.
ST to use Semtech’s LoRa RF tech for IoT deployments
Semtech and STMicroelectronics have announced an agreement on Semtech’s LoRa long-range wireless RF technology. ST intends to use the technology to target IoT deployments by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and large-scale private networks.
