What’s fuelling demand for IR grid sensors?
Thermopile sensor arrays can solve smart buildings’ challenges without compromising privacy, writes Sally Ward-Foxton. Image left:Melexis’ 32x24 pixel thermopile array, plus its optics, fits into a 4-pin TO-39 can
Success written in the stars for Taurus RF connectors range
The introduction of the Taurus range of low cost high quality, industry standard coaxial connectors and adaptors has been announced by Intelliconnect (Europe). The Intelliconnect Taurus connectors are supplied with the same level of quality control as Intelliconnect’s Precision and Pisces ranges. The Taurus connectors are available in industry standard formats including BNC, SMA, SMB, MCX and N Type.
High-power SMT attenuators cover DC-20GHz
A new series of high-power SMT attenuators from American Technical Ceramics (ATC) is available at distributor Richardson RFPD. The AT0603 Series provides virtually flat loss over a broad frequency spectrum and is ideal where low noise, low inductance and low parasitic capacitance is required.
High-precision simulation models shorten development time
Würth Elektronik eiSos and Modelithics are presenting the results of their cooperation project: with immediate effect, Microwave Global Models products are available for three product families of SMT high-frequency inductors.
Dual atomic clock sets another stability record
What could be better than a world-leading atomic clock? Two clocks in one.Physicists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have combined two experimental atomic clocks based on ytterbium atoms to set yet another world record for clock stability. Stability can be thought of as how precisely the duration of each clock tick matches every other tick that comes before and after.
Workshops and NI AWR software on show at APMC/IMaRC 2016
At the combined 2016 Asia Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC) and International Microwave and RF Conference (IMaRC) being held 5th-9thDecember in New Delhi,NI AWR Design Environment will be on display. Demonstrations showcasing ease-of-use and speed enhancements within NI AWR software, inclusive of Microwave Office, Visual System Simulator, AXIEM, Analyst and AntSyn, will be showcased in Booth 37/38.
World's first qubit device produced in standard CMOS process
Leti, an institute of CEA Tech, along with Inac, a fundamental research division of CEA, and the University of Grenoble Alpes have achieved the first demonstration of a quantum-dot-based spin qubit using an industry-standard fabrication process.Published in Nature Communications, and the topic of an invited paper at IEDM 2016, this proof-of-concept breakthrough uses a device fabricated on a 300-mm CMOS fab line.
Surface mount ceramic capacitors provide lower dissipation
Now available in Europe through TTI are Yageo’s CQ series surface mount multilayer ceramic capacitors (SMD MLCCs), also known as high quality factor capacitors (high-Q capacitors). The devices add copper inner electrodes and firing ceramic materials with excellent dielectric characteristics, providing lower dissipation and fewer self-heating problems compared to standard MLCCs.
Relighting the fire in the heart of Wakefield
A mainstay of Wakefield's social, cultural and political life since 1904, Unity Hall is a building close to the hearts of local residents. Over the years it hosted everything from ballroom dancing, silent films and wrestling to political meetings and punk rock concerts. Yet by the end of the 20th century, this iconic venue had fallen into disuse, almost becoming completely derelict.
Signal Analyser options address phase noise performance
The MS2840A-051 Noise Floor Reduction and MS2840A-019 2dB Step Attenuator for Millimeter-wave options have been released for Anritsu’s Signal Analyser MS2840A series. These latest releases are ideal for accurate measurements aimed at improving the performance of wireless equipment and signal sources, as well as for improving phase noise, which is key to upgrading the measurement resolution of microwave and mm-Wave radar and sensors.
