Finger vein patterns are key to authentication
Bank Zachodni WBK, part of the Santander Group and Poland's third-largest bankin terms of asset value and number of outlets, has introduced a biometric signature solution using Hitachi Finger Vein biometrics to its branch network,on a pilot basis. Since April 2015, customers of Zachodni in Lubin, and since June, in selected branches in Warsaw, can authenticate and sign personal account agreements using just their finger.
DARPA project enables microchip-scale laser sweeping
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has developed an innovative microchip which allows laser or LIDAR scanning in the field - but which dispenses with the need for expensive mechanical sweeping assemblies. The agency has stated that the accomplishment could open the door to a new class of miniaturised, extremely low-cost, robust laser-scanning technologies for LIDAR and other uses.
