Reference design simplifies industrial PSUs
Power Integrations has announced the DER-479reference design, which demonstrates an industrial power supply using the company’s LinkSwitch-4 family of CV/CC primary-side regulated switcher ICs with a 1200V Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT). The design supports 440VAC line inputs and features three outputs, which combine to provide up to 11W of highly accurate constant-voltage DC power.
Low-EMI digital isolators offer high noise immunity
Silicon Labs has introduced a family of high-speed, multi-channel digital isolators designed to provide a complete, highly integrated solution for signal and power isolation. Silicon Labs’ Si88xx isolators feature an integrated DC/DC converter with 78% efficiency, delivering up to 2W of power and offering very low EMI emissions and high noise immunity.
What are the major technical challenges for EVs?
Mustafa Dinc, Global Director, Automotive Business Development, Vishay Intertechnology, looks at what EV designers need to address in terms of power management and component design.
Optocouplers protect & drive SiC & GaN power devices
Avago hasannounced two sets of high speed gate drive optocoupler devices, the ACPL-P/W347 and ACPL-P/W349. These devices are 1.0A and 2.5A gate drive optocouplers designed to protect and drive fast switching next-gen power semiconductors like SiC and GaN MOSFETs and IGBTs in applications such as power inverters, motor drives, and switching power supplies.
MOSFET driver boards primed for IGBT modules
Mouser Electronics is now stocking the PT62SCMDxx Dual SIC MOSFET Driver Boards from Cree. Designed to drive the CREE CAS300M17BM2 SIC MOSFET modules, the PT62SCMD12 and PT62SCMD17 single-board solutions are dual silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET gate drivers optimised to ensure maximum performance for SiC modules.
EVERLIGHT Electronics highlights three new high performance optocouplers among its increasing infrared portfolio at electronica 2014
Everlight Electronics will showcase its broad and growing infrared portfolio at electronica 2014 that includes infrared LEDs, photo transistors and photo diodes, infrared receiver modules, optical sensors, photocouplers and high speed couplers. A particular attention this year will be given to three new high performance optocouplers EL617, EL101X and EL121N that combine a high breakdown voltage of 80V with a wide operating temperature range from ...
New VDE digital isolation standard is a game-changer
For more than two decades, a standard for optocouplers has proven isolation in almost all applications and equipment that demand secure separation of electrical circuits from high-voltage events. The baseline was the German VDE 0884 standard, finalised in 1987, and the international standard IEC 60747-5, which followed soon after. By Werner Berns and Kannan Soundarapandian, Texas Instruments.
