Wirelessly control machines with tablets and smartphones
A major problem with many machines is that the HMI is often a small basic control box with a small display and a few buttons that is hard to read and adjust. However, there is usually a USB port that engineers can plug into and link to a laptop for diagnostics and controlling settings. This cancreate a short-range WiFi link to a tablet or smartphone that runs a custom app to control the machine by using a USB stick.
20W Pin-diode switch designed for X-Band applications
M/A-COM Technology has announced a 20W Pin-diode switch suited for high power X-Band applications. The MASW-010647 is a monolithic, terminated Silicon PIN diode SPDT switch designed for X-Band high power, high performance applications. The switch handles greater than 20W of CW power over the 8.0-10.5 GHz frequency band.
ICs support display, audio and touch functionality
Expanding the company's Embedded Video Engine (EVE) offering, FTDI Chip has introduced the FT801. Supporting intelligent display implementations with audio and capacitive touch functionality, the FT801 has a capacitive touch element which is provided through an I²C interface connected to a standard capacitive touch controller.
COMs offer high scalability & Gen7 Intel HD graphics
Presented at embedded World 2014, two compac COM Express families were announced by Kontron. Both families integrate Intel Atom E3800 series processors and Intel Celeron N2900 / J1900 series processors, with the company offering 16 different configuration options in this COM Express Computer-on-Module performance class.
Solving the shared-cache problem
Now allowing users to prioritise simultaneous access of guest operating systems to shared resources like shared caches or the main memory itself, Real-Time Systems release an updated version of Hypervisor. This approach avoids lower priority operating systems influencing an RTOS using the same the last level cache.
Module combines capacitive switching with LED backlighting
Combining capacitive switching with multi-colour area-specific backlighting, Stadium-IGT has announced a range of LED Backlit Capacitive Switch Modules for OEM Designers.
Embedded display targets HMI applications
Farnell element14 has launched the EDM6070AR-01 fully-integrated Embedded Display Module(EDM) that integrates an ARM-based single board computer(SBC) with a 7” LCD and touch-screen assembly. The multi-function embedded EDM is based on the ARM9 AT91SAM9X35 industrial processor from Atmel.
Future-proof HMI concepts and instrumentation
Continental is developing future-proof human-machine interface (HMI) concepts and instrumentation for vehicle manufacturers worldwide. As well as a general increase in vehicle functions, future HMI concepts have to address oncoming trends such as partially, highly or fully automated driving. These situations have to be operated in a reasonable manner, when the transition takes place between the driver and the automated driving functionalities.
