Teledyne Coax Switches has announced its selection by Astrium Ltd, Portsmouth U.K. as the supplier for coaxial switch blocks to be used on the Alphasat I-XL satellite programme. Alphasat I-XL, one of the world’s largest telecommunications satellites, is being built by Astrium for Inmarsat to augment its Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN).
Saft lithium-ion technology launches with MEASAT-3a communications satellite
Built by Orbital Sciences Corporation and powered by Saft’s proven lithium-ion (Li-ion) technology, the MEASAT-3a successfully launched into space on Monday, 22 June 2009 from a Land Launch rocket at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan launch site. The MEASAT-3a contained two of Saft’s VES 140 batteries on-board, for a total of 72 VES 140 cells. This launch makes a total of 33 spacecraft in orbit today using Saft Li-ion battery technology.
