Orbbec, a company specialising in 3D vision systems, will unveil the Gemini 2 XL at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

The Gemini 2 XL, a long-range, 3D camera, stands out as an ideal primary visual system for a wide array of robots and AI-based video analytics and interaction systems. It offers accurate and reliable data capture in diverse lighting conditions, ranging from complete darkness to outdoor settings.

In line with Orbbec’s commitment to making 3D vision widely accessible, the Gemini 2 XL presents an affordable solution for robot designers seeking high-quality visual data without the hefty price tag of current market options.

The newly launched camera is user-friendly, easily integrating with the Orbbec SDK. Key features of the Gemini 2 XL include:

High-quality RGB-D data: suitable for demanding AI applications, it excels in detecting small objects and performs well in environments with high reflectivity. The device’s advanced deep learning algorithms effectively overcome traditional challenges, such as shadow and lighting variations, to provide comprehensive phase mapping around small objects.

Resilience to environmental lighting: the Gemini 2 XL is designed to function optimally in various lighting scenarios, including direct sunlight and outdoor environments, where conventional algorithms may struggle.

Independent operation without expensive vision processors: unlike other cameras that either come at a high cost or need additional computing power, the Gemini 2 XL offers a cost-effective yet accurate alternative.

David Chen, Co-Founder and Head of Products at Orbbec, expressed his excitement about showcasing the Gemini 2 XL at CES: “We are excited to demonstrate the superior capabilities of Gemini 2 XL at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. As Orbbec’s learning library continues to expand, the camera’s capabilities will continue to improve, broadening their applicability in robotics and AI-based vision solutions.”

Orbbec also offers ODM services for custom solutions, leveraging its expertise in R&D, manufacturing, and supply chain to meet specific application needs. This includes:

Integration with NVIDIA Jetson Platform: the Gemini 2 XL pairs with the NVIDIA Jetson Orin system-on-modules to enhance depth frame rate, accuracy, and scene versatility. This optimised deep learning pipeline and camera calibration service is part of Orbbec’s ODM package.

Customisable, scene-specific algorithms: Orbbec provides support for AI depth output customisation and model re-training with customer data sets for improved performance in specific application environments.

Orbbec invites robotics developers, enthusiasts, and media to visit its booth at the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Centre (LVCC), North Hall, 9745, to experience the Gemini 2 XL firsthand. For those unable to attend CES and interested in exploring the capabilities of the Gemini 2 XL in robotic vision and intelligent automation, further information is available on Orbbec’s website.
