The e-Tech Racing team, which is supported by Rutronik and consists of almost 50 students from Barcelona University, looked back on a successful 2017 during a sponsoring event held on 14th September. The team competed in numerous races with the electric racing car it unveiled in June and even finished on the podium in the Czech Republic. At the sponsoring event in Barcelona, the students presented an overview of their goals and the milestones achieved this year.

The team invested roughly 19,000 hours this year in developing, building, and testing a single seater electric racing car. The result was unveiled to the general public in the summer.

After completing the development stage, the e-Tech Racing Team took part in various races to see if its new car was up to the test. At a race in the Czech Republic, the team even won a place on the podium. In August, e-Tech Racing Barcelona competed in Formula Student Spain - an event that allows teams of engineering students to develop, design, and build a racing car. This allowed e-Tech Racing to gain valuable experience in terms of the racing car’s resistance to heat. Using this new knowledge, the vehicle will be overhauled to reduce its overall weight for the 2018 season. This work will also involve carrying out further studies and tests.

“As an innovative and modern company, Rutronik is committed to supporting students with fresh ideas,” explained Thomas Rudel, CEO, Rutronik. “In Germany, we already work with Formula Student teams in Karlsruhe and Pforzheim and now look forward to assisting the team in Barcelona with our know-how and required electronic components.”

As a result, Europe’s third largest distributor is not only promoting e-Tech Racing, but also helping Barcelona University train the engineers of the future. The German company provides teaching and training materials, e.g. components, demoboards and toolkits, for selected courses.
