Qseven module targets smart meter market

DFI is offering a Qseven module, the BT700, based on Intel’s Atom E3800 microprocessor aimed at smart metering applications and designed specifically to meet the performance/wattage requirements of intelligent systems. Using the low-watt processor is a cost-effective way of reducing power usage. Data collected from the meter is sent to the communication system via LAN or UART.

The SoC-based BT700 is equipped with 1 DDR3L onboard memory delivering maximum performance up to 4GB. With extended temperature range from -40oC to 85oC, this Qseven module could be used in extreme operating environments.

The module meets the demands of today’s modernised electrical grid that uses information and communications technology to gather information.

Integrated with advanced communication technology, all equipment and devices in a smart grid are connected by components and devices to form a complete power network.

With environmental protection as the main concern, smart grid is a cost-effective way of reducing power usage and increasing energy independence. It is expected to bring dramatic improvements, thus it requires a reliable platform that offers cost-efficiency and small footprint deployments.
