A collaboration has been announced between Casambi and EnOcean. EnOcean has newly developed a batteryless Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) switch module with Near Field Communication (NFC) that expands its range of energy-harvesting wireless solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT).

The PTM 215B 2.4 GHz, BLE-based module enables manufacturers to develop reliable, self-powered switches for modern lighting control systems and smart home applications.

Casambi has integrated support for the EnOcean BLE switches within its own smart wireless lighting control platform. The new EnOcean switches can be paired to a Casambi network and work seamlessly within its framework. With the support of NFC technology, system commissioning is fast and settings are easy to configure. Within a Casambi lighting control solution, the EnOcean switches can control individual luminaires, groups of luminaires, all luminaires in a network, different programmable scenes and even animations.

Timo Pakkala, CEO of Casambi, commented: “The combination of EnOcean's proven energy-harvesting technology and Casambi's state-of-the-art wireless lighting control solution is a perfect marriage. These two industry leading technologies create a complete wireless solution with maximum flexibility in control placement and usage.”

“Using Casambi's solution, the EnOcean switches can be instantaneously paired with a complete network of devices rather than users needing to systematically pair switches with individual receiving units. This allows EnOcean’s switches to be used as portable remote controllers across the entire Casambi network. The control logic of the switches can also be easily changed on-the-fly with an intuitive Casambi end-user app available for iOS and Android devices,” Pakkala added.

Together with Casambi, EnOcean demonstrated its wireless lighting control solutions using Bluetooth Low Energy at the Nordic Semiconductor booth during the CES show in Las Vegas in January 2017.
