SEGGER has announced that its full-featured graphical debugger and performance analyser, Ozone, now supports the Rust programming language.

This addition brings Rust developers a comprehensive toolset for debugging, performance analysis, and system inspection.

With the new support for Rust, Ozone offers essential features such as source and assembly debugging, memory view, call stack, backtrace, and data analysis, all specifically tailored for Rust developers. These tools allow for detailed system state inspection and provide in-depth insights into program performance.

Rolf Segger, Founder of SEGGER, commented on Rust’s growing significance: “At SEGGER, we see Rust becoming a more and more popular programming language. Rust is fast, memory-efficient and safe. With first-class tool support, it has the potential to overtake C and C++. And my favourite feature when using Ozone also works: Interleaving source code with disassembly for selected lines. This is not only great when debugging and optimising, but also for understanding the code generated by the compiler."

Ozone, specifically developed for embedded applications, has earned a reputation for its speed and user-friendly interface, particularly when paired with SEGGER’s J-Link and J-Trace debug and trace probes. It extends beyond basic debugging, offering features like instruction tracing via J-Trace, live code profiling, and code coverage analysis. These capabilities make Ozone a versatile tool, enabling developers to gain a comprehensive view of system behaviour, identify inefficiencies, and resolve bugs more effectively.

The user interface of Ozone is designed to be intuitive and fully customisable. Developers can adjust window layouts by moving, resizing, and docking them as needed, providing flexibility in adapting the workspace to individual requirements. Furthermore, Ozone is available across multiple platforms, supporting Windows, Mac, and Linux, on both Arm and Intel hosts.
