UL Leverages Power of Technical Data with Motor DNA
UL (Underwriters Laboratories) leverages technical data for global electronic motor manufacturer customers in its new state-of-the-art process called Motor DNA (Data Native Architecture). Motor DNA is a data-centric certification and reporting process for motor product safety evaluations.
HistUL has been evaluating products and writing safety certification reports for over 118 years. Consequently, we own one of the largest repositories of product safety certification data in the world, said Frank Ladonne, Principal Engineer for UL Motor Categories. Motor DNA unlocks the power of technical data and knowledge acquired from the manufacturer's previously evaluated products, streamlining the current process to a more collaborative and satisfying certification experience, added Ladonne.
Motor DNA more readily lends itself to linking, sorting, searching and retrieving, which enables referencing previous construction and testing. This reduces effort, turnaround time - in some cases from months to days- and cost of future submittals. Motor DNA also identifies key differences between motors to quickly determine what testing is necessary, adding to improved speed to market.
UL is proactively reaching out to its motor clients to discuss how Motor DNA can enhance and fast track safety evaluation and certification.
