Sandvine Chooses Spirent for Mobile Core Testing
Sandvine has selected Spirent Communications to verify the performance of its network policy control solutions under mobile network conditions. With Spirent’s mobile core testing solution, Sandvine can ensure its Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) supports stringent mobile requirements such as high volumes of subscribers with dynamic IP traffic flows. Designed to emulate real-world 3G/LTE traffic models in the core network at mobile scale, Spirent’s test solution enables Sandvine to significantly reduce the cost of testing and improve the time to market of its solution.
Sandvine’s Fairshare Traffic Management provides the ability to detect and manage mobile radio access network congestion, taking into account the mobile sectors from which millions of wireless subscribers generate a variety of multimedia data traffic, thus resulting in lower network costs and improved subscriber experience. Differentiated mobile service plans, enabled by Sandvine’s Usage Management, combine usage thresholds or application segmentation with accurate billing, providing subscribers with a choice of service offerings allowing mobile operators to fuel revenue growth.
“Sandvine gives carriers the ability to leverage application, subscriber, device and congestion awareness to enforce policy decisions that have the greatest impact on managing network loading, reducing operating expenditure, and increasing the subscriber experience,” said Brad Siim, COO and vice president of engineering at Sandvine. “Being able to model the entire mobile network – network elements, subscribers, and applications – with the realism and scale of the real-world is critical in ensuring that our solutions will continue to meet the deployment requirements of our mobile operator customers.”
Also used by leading mobile operators worldwide, Sandvine is utilizing Spirent Landslide Mobile Core Test Solution to comprehensively emulate 3G/LTE mobile networks with millions of subscribers accessing a multitude of mobile applications and to test how its PTS responds in the mobile core network. As the industry’s only solution that emulates real-world traffic models, Spirent Landslide emulates all of the key mobile core data network elements, and combines control plane and data plane simulation. This provides realistic emulation of millions of mobile nodes in various stages of activation, deactivation, and hand-off between cells, all while transmitting and receiving real-world application data.
“Testing mobile elements with network, application and subscriber realism at scale is central to ensuring QoS and QoE in the mobile network,” said Jeff Schmitz, vice president of Networks & Applications at Spirent. “Spirent is a pioneer in mobile core testing and is the leading choice of carriers for core network testing which is why industry leading equipment vendors such as Sandvine continue to rely on us.”
