Precise current measurement with voltage-output transducer

In contemporary practice, users employ a variety of instruments for data acquisition, extending beyond traditional oscilloscopes. These instruments typically have voltage inputs of ±10 volts or ±1 volt, but often lack a direct current sensor.

Consequently, when users require a precision current sensor, they must also use a burden resistor to facilitate the connection. However, this often poses a significant challenge: users need to align the specifications of the current sensor with those of the burden resistor. This alignment process necessitates careful consideration of numerous factors, including safety, amplitude, phase angle, temperature variations, among others. The complexity of these specifications leaves considerable room for error.

This is precisely where the use of a current transducer from Danisense, featuring a voltage output, simplifies the users' tasks significantly. The burden resistor is already integrated into the current transducer, eliminating the risk of miscalculations. Users now have a single current transducer with one datasheet, allowing them to immediately begin precise and reliable current measurements in their respective applications.

Danisense's current transducers from the DS, DM, DL, and DR series with voltage output offer users highly reliable and accurate options for precise measurements in both AC and DC. These products are ideal for a wide range of applications, particularly in harsh environments and high-temperature settings such as e-mobility, solar, and wind energy sectors. According to Timothy Hertstein, Sales Manager for Northern Europe at Danisense’s German distributor ZES ZIMMER, the DS, DM, DL, and DR series current transducers with voltage output are also utilised by several major calibration labs and technical research institutes. "They all greatly appreciate that these current transducers from Danisense are so easy and quick to integrate into their test systems, eliminating the need for further calculations and minimising the risk of misinterpreting the specifications of the current sensor and burden resistor," Hertstein stated.

The DS, DM, and DL series current transducers from Danisense are designed to precisely measure AC and DC currents ranging from 55A to 3,000A. They offer a 1V or 10V BNC voltage output connection, a large aperture (up to 68mm) and very low linearity errors. All products are housed in full aluminum casings for superior EMI shielding and incorporate Danisense’s Fluxgate technology. This closed-loop compensated technology with fixed excitation frequency and second harmonic zero flux detection ensures best-in-class accuracy and stability.

For high-power current sensing needs up to 11kA, the DR series products with voltage output are ideally suited. The transducer core is optimised for high immunity against external magnetic fields. Additional features include a very large aperture of up to 150mm, very low linearity errors, a three-pin XLR mini connector for voltage output and an advanced sensor protection circuit (ASPC).
