New DARTS 9040-GT radar target simulator
High-resolution radar sensors and solutions that are capable of precisely and selectively capturing their environment while providing height, distance, and speed information, are a key technology in the development of self-driving vehicles.
dSPACE is therefore expanding its product family of radar target simulators for the testing of automotive 4-D sensors by a system that allows for the precise simulation of two radar targets with high resolution. The new DARTS 9040-GT supports the development of radar systems that have to meet strict requirements on separation capability, making testing easier and more efficient in terms of effort and costs.
Validating the separation capability of ultra-high-resolution radar systems is currently tedious and complex. The dSPACE Automotive Radar Test System (DARTS) 9040-GT is the ideal fit for this test case; it allows for the simulation of two targets with high precision and resolution by means of an instantaneous bandwidth that covers the entire 5GHz of the automotive E-band. Until now, two DARTS 9040-G had to be used in a test setup to complete this task. The DARTS 9040-GT simulates two targets on the basis of the tried-and-tested DARTS 9040-G technology. With the introduction of the DARTS 9040-G in late 2020, dSPACE set new standards in terms of resolution and signal quality for the demanding tests of 4-D sensors.
The DARTS 9040-GT supports separation tests for radar targets that approach from different angles or for targets that are located at different distances but at the same angles. “You can switch between the two tests with a single click, without having to change the test setup. Since the range separation tests can be performed with a single high-frequency front end, they can be implemented very cost-effectively,” explained Dr. Alexander Trapp, Product Manager Radar Solutions at dSPACE.
The DARTS 9040-GT will be available for demos and evaluations starting in January 2023.
