An advanced testing method that offers 100% electrical testing of every connector contact point and every solder point throughout the entire signal path via a RoBAT S1 backplane fixtureless test has been announced by ERNI USA. The all-in-one RoBAT S1 automatic optical inspection and fixtureless electrical test machine simulates the daughter card plugging into the backplane or motherboard.

This new testing method enhances and expands ERNI’s resources to provide 100% Net-list testing. Net-list testing goes beyond AOI and bed-of-nails testing, ensuring all products meet customer specifications and eliminating the risk of a bad board reaching the end customer's product.

With a rigorous quality control process and automated testing equipment, ERNI provides serialised data that is traceable at a cost far less than standard testing solutions.

"ERNI provides manufacturing, testing and support services for military OEMs with unique application requirements, specialising in fully-assembled and fully-tested backplanes. We manufacture and test high quality, low-to-mid volume, high-mix military backplanes for a wide range of military applications including radar equipment and drones," said Allen Cowan, Systems Engineering Manager at ERNI USA. "Our test services can support any pitch, any connector and any thickness or size backplane. The automated test equipment can also handle double-sided board testing. ERNI processes, produces and tests with minimal NRE changes – all in less time and less cost."

ERNI USA manufacturing services also offers 100% x-ray inspection when required and features a heavy-duty gantry inspection capability for handling extra-large populated double-sided PC boards.
