ESD Simulator self calibrates at every start-up
TESEQ (formerly Schaffner Test Systems) has announced the introduction of the NSG 437 handheld ESD Simulator. The NSG 437 generates pulses from 200 V to 30 kV, in both air and contact discharge operation modes. Automatic self calibration of the NSG 437 is performed at every start up, taking the unit to maximum voltage in both polarities to ensure that all test levels are maintained within specification.

Teseq’s ESD simulators comprehensively fulfil the requirements of all major global ESD standards as well as all proposed future standards. Special care has been taken to meet the holding time of at least five seconds required by the standards, to guarantee optimised reproducibility of a test. The proper tip voltage is assured by a feedback system that continuously monitors the actual tip voltage and adds charge to the discharge network as needed in order to hold the tip voltage constant for 5 seconds or up to 5 minutes if required.
The NSG 437 features a broad range of more than 20 plug-in network-modules with resistance values from zero ohms and capacitances up to the nF range. These networks can be simply pushed into place in seconds enabling the NSG 437 to meet applications that require multiple R/C network combinations, such as the automotive industry. Teseq also offers a number of specialised rigid and flexible discharge tips for diverse applications.
The simulator contains a threshold detector to eliminate faulty discharge counts over its wide operating voltage range and applications. When discharges are detected, the counter or preset counter is incremented or decremented respectively - a particularly useful feature for long test runs. The detection feature can be switched off when testing EUT’s (equipment under test) with non-conductive surfaces, such as plastic housings.
The touch panel display with its keypad for parameter setting and control shows the precise functional and test data at any moment. All essential functions and actual status are displayed, with user-selectable language for convenient and safe operation worldwide.
Pre-programmed settings for IEC/EN 61000-4-2 and ISO 10605 ensure that the simulator is automatically set up correctly. The menu retains its settings and comes up again after completion of a test sequence.
