Delphi Links Drivers to Entertainment and Information with MyFi™ Family of Connected Solutions
What if you could safely duplicate your smart phone's display in your vehicle? What if your car was smart enough to know that only certain apps are safe to use when driving but could display all of your apps on an in-vehicle screen when the vehicle is parked? What if your vehicle warned you when you are drowsy or following another car too closely? What if it recognized that you were low on fuel and could automatically direct you to the nearest and lowest-cost gas station?
DelpJust a few years ago when we envisioned information and entertainment in our vehicles, we thought of AM/FM radios with a CD or cassette player, said Jugal Vijayvargiya, general director of Delphi's Infotainment & Driver Interface Product Business Unit. Today, consumers want to be connected 24/7, and Delphi is delivering real-world solutions to meet those needs.
Delphi's MyFi™ infotainment systems offer the features of traditional radios – and much more. Offering flexibility, world-class quality and designs that enhance the user experience, MyFi™ is helping vehicle manufacturers meet the needs of today's connected consumers by integrating infotainment, user experience, active safety, workload management and body security technology to minimize distraction, take advantage of Delphi's safety system expertise and provide maximum value to vehicle manufacturers and consumers.
Flexible and Easy to Use
Delphi MyFi™ products are scalable, offering various feature / function levels, depending on customer requirements. Providing a well-structured architecture, MyFi™ systems also enable vehicle manufacturers to offer world-class infotainment systems that can be easily updated through software modifications in response to trends and technology advancement.
Innovative styling and feature integration are central to the MyFi™ character. Making it possible for consumers to connect with portable devices seamlessly, MyFi™ designs are optimized to make each system's features intuitive and easy to use.
Optimized MyFi™ Systems
Delphi introduced its first MyFi™ infotainment system – the Connected Navigation Radio (CNR) – on the Audi A1 in the European market last year. The CNR's open, well-structured architecture allows for more than 20 feature variations by configuring the vehicle's infotainment platform with simple software upgrades.
Over the next twelve months, Delphi is expected to introduce exciting, new MyFi™ products that offer natural voice recognition and text-to-speech; leverage industry standards WiFi, Bluetooth and USB; and provide integrated apps, such as Pandora and Stitcher. The innovative systems will also allow drivers and passengers to access smart phone apps housed on their personal phones, listen and reply to text messages, and utilize a state-of-the-art navigation engine, all while keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
Vijayvargiya also noted that MyFi™ products use Delphi's proprietary ultra-light plastic chassis technology to create high-performance systems that weigh less than traditional audio systems.
In today's environment, where weight reduction is targeted to improve fuel economy, reducing system weight by nearly 25 percent – more than a pound for a typical audio system – provides our customers another important advantage, he said.
In addition to innovative infotainment systems, the MyFi™ product portfolio includes complete synergistic solutions that employ Delphi's industry-leading human machine interface functionality to provide the optimal user experience. Key technologies include reconfigurable displays, global reception solutions and global digital tuner expertise.
Delphi will demonstrate integration of connectivity and safety on its newest MyFi™ Infotainment System at Ward's Auto Interiors Conference in Dearborn, Michigan on May 17.
