Continental brings TFT Displays to Motorcycle Cockpits
At the EICMA International Motorcycle Exhibition (November 13-18, 2012) in Milan, Continental showcased a TFT display design study for motorcycles. The study was specially designed for use in two-wheeler cockpits, which is why particular attention was paid to strong contrast, so as to ensure that the display is always perfectly readable whatever the light conditions. Moreover, the display is so robustly designed that it can easily withstand the tough conditions in an open cockpit. The design study’s 4.2-inch screen has 480 x 272 pixels, offering excellent legibility and image quality. The large number of pixels makes for top-notch graphics, and thanks to smart product design the TFT display can be easily built into cockpits from a wide range of motorcycle manufacturers.
DispTFT technology, which found its way long ago out of just the high-end vehicle segment, is becoming an increasingly worthwhile technology for motorcycle manufacturers, as this kind of display unit offers motorcyclists virtually unlimited possibilities for instrumentation. The options include onboard computer readings, outside temperature and heated grip settings. And being able to read the smartphone screen on the motorcycle display could be a convenient bonus for motorcyclists for navigating or displaying calls.
Thanks to this technology, Continental is now in a position to produce any manufacturer-specific TFT instrumentation for motorcycles. Besides original equipment instrumentation solutions for cars and motorcycles, Continental also offers instrumentation products for agricultural and construction vehicles.
